You win some, you lose some. As long as your carry yourself with honor and integrity then you will always walk out the other end with respect, and even with the loss of the United Championship, Cleo Phillips is still someone whose name carries respect in the locker room, and it’s respect she’s earned every ounce of.
—------
We open on Cleo Phillips sitting on a park bench, behind her Z-Money can be seen shooting baskets by himself. She’s dressed in basic athletic gear, and dons a Seattle Mariners ballcap, she takes a drink of water from a water bottle before speaking.
“I ain’t gonna come at ya’ll with any excuses.” she began, “Alexis was the better woman at Demons Run and deserves to be United Champion. She’s done it all in this company, and her reign is going to be a memorable one. Anyone who goes against her, come prepared, she’s truly walking around invigorated and on a whole new level.”
Cleo pounds her chest twice for Alexis, a common and well known sign of respect on the streets.
“Don’t ya’ll go worrying about me either” she continued, “I got it all under control. You know me. Always moving forward. Team Cleo won’t stop until we are on top of the world."
She gives a knowing wink, with a confident smirk.
“For now, lets discuss Stacy O’ Brien, who apparently drew the short straw this week. I do hope you don’t take the beating I’m going to give you personally Stacy. Understand I don’t go easy on anybody, rookie, champion or legend. You always get the best version of Cleo Phillips. I’m able to bring. I may not be a champion anymore, but I‘m still one of the best fighters in this company. I’m still that badass bitch from the streets who just doesn’t know when to quit.” The intensity grows in her eyes, as she speaks passionately, “I’m still someone who lives to inspire, and make change. I haven’t shown a lot of my community work, because I refuse to bring the cameras. I want these kids to understand they CAN reach that next level. Now, it’s time I move to the next level of my career, and Stacy is just a mere roadblock I fully intend to plow straight through.”
She takes another drink of water, Z-Money continues shooting baskets behind her.
“Stacy, you’re just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I’m sure you’ll bring all the guts and determination you can, but it just won’t be enough. Maybe enough to get a buzz around yourself, but not enough to beat someone on my level. Just don’t give up Stacy. One day it’ll be you speaking this words to the rookies of tomorrow.” Cleo says with a smile.
“Weird to think of myself as not a rookie. I’m not so cocky as to call myself a legend or anything, not yet anyway.” she winks. “But I don’t think it’s saying to much to consider myself a name that carries some weight around here. You’re about to find out why everyone that steps into the ring with me knows they’re in for a real fight, and just why my name is one that commands respect.”
Behind her Z-Money dribbles to the hoop.
“I’m coming off the loss of a championship Stacy.” she said, as Z drew closer and took his shot, “So you understand I’m going to do what I need to do, and at Riot nothing is going to stop me from getting back on track, and catching this rebound.”
As she finishes speaking the shot Z took misses and rebounds at Cleo, who catches with a smile.
“I’ll see you at Riot Stacy, and as always I am going to SET IT OFF.”
She smiles at the camera, before tossing the ball back to Z and joining him for a game of 1 on 1 as the scene fades to black.
