“SURPRISE ATTACK!!!!”
*flop and groans*
“Your son is up…”
“I got him...I got him.”
(Nick opens his eyes to see his young son bouncing on his and Laura’s bed, smiling from ear to ear.)
Aaron Madison: Less go playyyyyy!
Nick Madison: Can I wake up first, buddy?
Aaron Madison: Hmmmmm….I guess.
Nick Madison: Alright, let’s get up so mommy can go back to sleep.
Aaron Madison: Okay.
(Nick sits up and Aaron crawls over to him, wrapping his little arms around Nick’s neck as Nick gets up out of bed. Nick looks down at the clock to see its just after six am, as he goes over to the closet. He pulls out a shirt, and sets Aaron down, before putting on the shirt. He picks Aaron back up before he leaves the room, closing the door behind him as to let Laua sleep, while he and Aaron head downstairs.)
Nick Madison: So, what happened to you sleeping in?
Aaron Madison: The sky is awake...so I’m awake.
Nick Madison:...you’ve been watching too much Disney.
Aaron Madison: No such thing, daddy.
Nick Madison: Well...too much Frozen.
Aaron Madison: What about Lion King?
Nick Madison: Now you’re talking.
Aaron Madison: Hak..haku….
Nick Madison: Hakuna Matata.
Aaron Madison: Yay!
(Nick makes it downstairs to the living room, where he sets Aaron down, as he takes a seat on the couch. Aaron starts running around the room wildly as he laughs playfully.)
Nick Madison: Sometimes I wonder how you can be my son with this much energy this early, knowing who your mom is.
Aaron Madison: Imma run the Olympics!
Nick Madison: You’re gonna be in the Olympics?
Aaron Madison: Mhmmm!
Nick Madison: You love running?
(Aaron stops in his tracks right in front of Nick and looks at him, smiling from ear to ear.)
Aaron Madison: I like going fast!
Nick Madison: There it is.
Aaron Madison: There what is?
(Nick sighs, as he slides down to the floor with Aaron, tickling him in the stomach as Aaron giggles and falls to the floor.)
Nick Madison: you are definitely my son.
Aaron Madison: Duhhh.
(The two laugh, as they lay on the floor.)
Nick Madison: You excited to see Uncle Jo and Aunt Sky on Tuesday?
Aaron Madison: Yeah! And sissy, and Ari…
Nick Madison: And I’m sure they’ll all be excited to see you too, buddy. You want some breakfast?
Aaron Madison: Yeah!
Nick Madison: What do ya want?
Aaron Madison: Ummmm….oooo! Waffles!
(Nick laughs, and nods his head as he gets up from the floor.)
Nick Madison: Alright, waffles it is.
Aaron Madison: Yay!
(Aaron starts jumping for joy, before running to the kitchen as Nick follows behind him. Nick starts getting the things to make waffles.)
(After a while, Nick and Aaron lay on the couch, as Aaron is passed out, and Nick is….*ahem* “resting his eyes* as Laura walks in to make herself a cup of coffee. She gets it made, and walks over to the chair next to the couch and takes a seat. She looks over at the boys to see Nick opening his eyes.)
Nick Madison: Thought I heard you come down.
Laura Phoenix: He already tire himself out?
Nick Madison: That and waffles.
Laura Phoenix: Mmm waffles.
Nick Madison: I’ll make us something after he wakes up.
Laura Phoenix: Alright, sounds good.
(Laura looks at Nick, who seems to be staring off into space with a distracted look on his face.)
Laura Phoenix: Everything okay?
Nick Madison: Just thinking.
Laura Phoenix: Penny for your thoughts?
Nick Madison: I just...while we were laying here, after he fell asleep, I decided to pick up my phone and check twitter. And then quickly was reminded why I don’t check it.
Laura Phoenix: The stuff with Brody?
Nick Madison: There’s always going to be some young kid saying that I’m washed up, a has-been, nothing more than Mr. Laura Phoenix. Honestly it’s not that gets me. It’s the disrespect they have towards me, even without you...I’ve done so much in this business. It’s like this new generation just doesn’t know the meaning of respect.
Laura Phoenix: They’re not ALL like that, ya know?
Nick Madison: I know...but they all have seem to have that….I dunno...that side of them I guess.
Laura Phoenix: And you don’t?
(Laura looks at Nick with a raised eyebrow.)
Nick Madison: Oh, I know I do...I did...hell, when I was their age, I was a hellion.
Laura Phoenix: Nothing’s changed….just sayin’.
(Laura smirks at Nick.)
Nick Madison: You ain’t no saint either, just sayin’.
Laura Phoenix: Never claimed to be.
Nick Madison: One of the things that made me fall for ya.
Laura Phoenix: Was that before or after you and Trisha tried to get me hired at a strip club?
(Nick lets out a sigh and shakes his head, as Laura chuckles.)
Nick Madison: Of course you’d bring that up.
Laura Phoenix: I still can’t believe you did that to me, and Kurt…
Nick Madison: Oh, Kurt’s thing was because I couldn’t stand him.
Laura Phoenix: Why?
(Nick hesitates for a second.)
Nick Madison: He was….how do I say this...creepy as hell.
Laura Phoenix: He wasn’t that bad...I mean...he calmed down a lot.
Nick Madison: Oh no, I’d hate to see what he was like before you two got to PWS.
Laura Phoenix: Well, I’d hate to know what you thought of me.
Nick Madison: Well, there’s a reason I suggested we try to get you hired at a strip club...can’t blame a guy for trying.
(Laura looks at Nick, as he shrugs his shoulders. She sits there a moment, not really sure what to say.)
Laura Phoenix:...wait...wut? Wow….
Nick Madison: Well, considering how things went...I’d say...success!
Laura Phoenix: You’re horrible.
Nick Madison: I’m just me.
Laura Phoenix: Well, are you ready for Tuesday?
(Nick lets out another sigh, looking down at a sleeping Aaron, before looking back over to Laura.)
Nick Madison: I don’t want him watching the match. He got attached to Malwhen you took him to SCW, so I don’t want him to see us fighting.
Laura Phoenix: I’m sure he’d understand. It’s not like you two are gonna try to kill each other.
(Nick stares at Laura with an intent look.)
Nick Madison: I don’t...want him watching the match.
Laura Phoenix: There something you wanna talk about?
Nick Madison: I just don’t want him watching. I’m actually wondering if we should look into getting a babysitter for him when we have to go to the shows.
Laura Phoenix: What? Where is all this coming from?
Nick Madison: It’s coming from the fact that I’m not exactly sure I want him to follow in our footsteps of being a professional wrestler.
(This floors Laura, as she looks at Nick blankly.)
Laura Phoenix: You do realize we are starting touring after Rise to Glory...that would mean time away from him every other week, sometimes days at a time.
Nick Madison: I know, like I said i’ts just a thought.
Laura Phoenix: Still, why wouldn’t you want him to be a wrestler?
Nick Madison: And set him up for a life full of struggle and possible injuries? I mean, yeah I know he’d probably have a guaranteed spot if PWS is still around then, but just thinking of all the hell you and I have been through...the mindset of a wrestler, never being able to admit when it’s time to hang it up and move on.
Laura Phoenix: Wait...are we still talking about Aaron being a wrestler, or about you coming back?
Nick Madison: I don’t know what I was thinking coming back...I’m constantly in pain these days. I might should have listened to Josiah before all this.
Laura Phoenix: You talked to him before you came back?
(Nick puts his head down, as Laura looks at him with a “what the hell” kind of look.)
Nick Madison: Yeah, it was one weekend while you were gone with Bella for SCW. I felt rejuvenated when everything happened with Lukas, but I had fire and...well, the need for violence driving me. But it’s been getting harder and harder with every match since...I guess the match with Eddie being the exception. Facing Jack was...that was a thing.
Laura Phoenix: What are you trying to say?
Nick Madison: I’m trying to say I don’t know how much longer I’ll be doing this. I wanna be here for Aaron while he grows up. I wanna be able to play catch with him, teach him how to swim, teach him how to ride a bike, give him driving lessons, the whole thing.
(Laura can sense the worry in her husband’s voice.)
Laura Phoenix: And you will be there.
Nick Madison: I just...I wanna be sure...I don’t want the same thing to happen to him that happened to me….can we please talk about something else?
Laura Phoenix: Sure…
(Laura thinks for a second.)
Laura Phoenix: Do you want to talk about your match on Tuesday? You know Mal is going to bring it.
Nick Madison: Who are you gonna be cheering for?
Laura Phoenix: You know I have to be impartial, as general manager.
Nick Madison: Yeah, just figured I’d ask. Yeah, I know Mal is gonna be up for a fight...you could say this has been a long time in the making. We’ve never shared a ring before, so this one will be interesting at least. I mean this is probably the most important unimportant match we’ve had.
Laura Phoenix: I can see that.
Nick Madison: No matter which way it goes, one of us is going to have a hit to the ego, and need our girl to be there for us. I won’t lie, Mal has came a long way into turning my opinion of him around, but I still have to show who I am.
Laura Phoenix: And he’s going to be trying to do what he can to go toe to toe with you in the ring.
Nick Madison: He can try.
Laura Phoenix: There’s the ego.
Nick Madison: Not ego...well...okay a little ego, but mostly confidence. I might be on my last run, but I’m not going off to that sunset just yet.
(Nick chuckles, as he looks back down at Aaron, who is starting to stir.)
