The Biggest Mistake Part 2: Popping the question.
Nerves were a hell of a thing. Aiden Reynolds never got nervous when he was wrestling. That was all confidence, all power and strength. The last seven years travelling the world, from his home in Australia to Europe, South America and to Japan. Out in front of the fans and the world, never got nervous, he never sat backstage and doubted himself. But this was different. Thi9s was a decision that had ramifications on the rest of his life and something he couldn’t control. In the ring her knew if he did all he had to, if he did his half and his part it would not be looked down on. He’d be a success.
But this was a problem. The question he was about to ask could change everything. The ring box in his hand felt heavier than he thought it was going to be.
Since showing Dickie and talking to him about it there had been this nagging feeling in the back of his mind. A small voice telling him it may not be the best idea. But at the same time, he bought the ring and was stubborn. He had come to America, he had success in his professional life, now it was time for his personal life to follow suite. But waiting was the hardest part, pacing back and forth in the small apartment he shared with Florence, waiting for her to finish work and come home. It was maddening. His heart was beating fast, his palms were sweaty and his breath laboured.
What if she said no? What if she didn’t see this as serious as he did? Sure they were living together, sure they seemed to fit well. But there was that chance, that chance that Florence could just laugh it off and that he would be calling Dickie to find somewhere else to stay for the night and foreseeable future. He swallowed hard looking up at the clock, it was time, the usual time when Florence would be home, give or take a few minutes. He sat down watching the door with baited breath.
The lock clicked, the knob turned and Aiden gave a nervous grin as Florence walked in, she sighed heavily dropping her bag as the door closed behind her.
“Hard day?” Aiden laughed under his breath as Florence gave a nod and moved into the kitchen. She opened the fridge pulling out a beer popping the top and taking a sip. Aiden laughed to himself and moved around to give her a hug.
Florence sighed and smiled relaxing into his chest. “Busy, good for the shop, but my back hurts from sitting in the same position, and people have horrible ideas about what makes good tattoos.” There was a hint of frustration in her voice, maybe this was a bad idea. Or a good one. Would it improve her mood? Or would it be bad timing? Florence pulled back and smiled warmly. “What should we eat? I’m so hungry….Chinese? Italian?”
Aiden swallowed and shook his head. “I dunno, food is food” He smiled, Florence narrowed her eyes and tilted her head lifting her finger to her lips.
“Are you ok? You seem...off” Aiden gave her a small shrug and smiled. Florence gave a nod and backed up before finishing her beer and moving the empty can to the recycling. “I know, lets try that new place downstairs and across the street, the pizza place, you need to carb lo-”
She stopped mid sentence as she turned, Aiden had slowly dropped to one knee, the ring box in his hand and open as it was turned towards her. Florence stood silent, her mouth slightly open as Aiden cleared his throat and took a deep breath. “Florence, will you marry me?” Silence. It was what Aiden didn’t want. If she had said no it would have been something, Yes would have made him ecstatic. But silence? More of the unknown. He swallowed hard and went to stand up. His heart sinking to his chest.
But, Florence stepped forward and blurted out an answer. “Yes” Aiden smiled, he looked up into her eyes getting to his feet and quickly taking the ring out and sliding it on her finger. Florence threw her arms around his neck, holding him close. His heart was racing again, but this time it was because he was happy….for now.
Socialising.
“Oi Aiden?”
The voice of Dickie Watson rings out from behind his iPhone. He pushes Aidens door open stepping in. He stops finding Aiden sitting on his couch, a bowl of spicy ramen in his hands as he stares ahead.
“Whats up bro?”
No answer, Aiden seemingly focused on his television.
“The hell are you wat-....oh you can’t be serious”
Aiden turns looking annoyed, he tilts his head and before he can answer Dickie shakes his head and sighs heavily interrupting.
“Why are you watching keeping up with the kar-...oh wait...I get it research for our match…”
“...what match?”
Dickie goes silent. Aiden looks confused and Dickie slumps in the chair causing the iPhone to bounce.
“The one against the society? The one I’ve come over here to film and post your promo for?. You know, that one?”
“Oh….does that mean I have to put pants on?”
There’s a pause, a sigh and the filming stops, then we come back to Aiden, now wearing jeans and a T Shirt, his arms folded over his chest as he paces back and forth.
“Stupid pants…”
“Aiden!”
“FINNNE!...”
The arrogant Australian shakes his head and stares ahead at the phone.
“So, we beat Mud and Skip, but lets be honest here, did anyone have a doubt? Me and Dickie are an experienced team, the first ever Apex tag team champions, we took our talents to another company and we dominated there too. This is what Dickie and I have done since we became a team, since we decided we were going to watch each others backs. And, when he first told me he wanted to return to PWS Apex I was skeptical. I didn’t understand why we wanted to retread the same old path. But then, Dickie laid it out for me.”
“We bhad unfinished business. And we did ourselves and indeed the company a disservice by leavin.”
“And when he put that out there, well, I got it. I understood and the truth is he was right. And I-”
“Sorry?..can you say that again…”
“What?”
“The last part…”
“Fuck off”
Dickie snickers behind the phone and clears his throat as Aiden shakes his head and folds his arms over his chest and continues.
“As I was sayin, someone was right, and the more I thought about it the more I realised we never gave PWS Apex the attention and respect it deserved. We came in and they wanted a tag division. We became the stars of the division and we let petty shit get in the way. We stood by and looked at the lack of competition and instead of doing the hard work and building the division around us, we bailed. We walked out. And truth is, that was bullshit. So, we came back, we’re back and not only are Dickie and I gunnin for those titles again but...we might even be looking at the other shiny titles in this company as well as some big scalps…”
“And I want my scalps…”
Aiden points at the phone, Dickie laughs.
“Ok Aldo Reign…”
“Look mate...Inglorious Basterds is a fucking masterpiece...but stop interruptin me...you are ruining my flow.”
There’s a pause and Aiden clears his throat.
“But, after beating up Mud and Skip, Dickie and I have been put in a match with one of the only other teams in PWS Apex that is actually a team, The Society. And colour me shocked, surprised and completely fuckin bored. Are ya kidding me?. Here I was all jazzed up in maybe facing a team that may not be an actual team but has a name, or maybe even the tag champions. But instead, we have a couple of airheads who seem to have watched the movie “mean girls” one to many times.”
“These two are facing two of the best professional wrestlers on the planet today, two men who have been successful and have shown how good they can be day in and day out as well as in this goddamn company. But, we will be getting in the ring with Jasmine Phillips and Ella Singleton. Should we be intimidated? Cause, ya know. We ain’t. Dickie is one of the fastest humans on the planet, and I’m no slouch either. So this is what is going to happen. The society is going to saunter their dumb asses down to the ring, they are going to get in and do their usual bullshit…”
“And then…”
“Dickie and I are going to beat the living hell out of them, get the win and walk backstage to sit down at catering, pig out and watch the main event before we get booked and do it all again. Ella and Jasmine will be just a footnote in our career, just like they will be nothing but a footnote in PWS Apex….The commonwealth rises”

It's pretty early in the morning as Jasmine Philips and Elle Singleton are in her family's gym in Ocala, Florida. They are running some tag team drills while her father is watching with Carter King standing beside him. Elle has one of her father's students in a very effective submission as Jasmine runs in and slams a polish style hammer into the other guy. The young student taps his hand on the mat as Elle pushes him away. A sick smirk appears on her face as Jasmine rolls her neck from side to side.
The Commonwealth must think Jasmine and I aren't familiar with them. They would be right because let's be fucking honest. You two jackasses are nothing more than a couple of butt hurt shitheads who had to leave Apex because they weren't getting their way. If you think think we are just going to lie the fuck down for you then think again. We are not Skip and Mud. We are not just any other tag team. We were the only team on this roster before you showed back up. In my opinion, you two mean absolutely nothing to us. Why? Because we don't care what you did back in the day. We don't give a crap what you used to do. What matters to us is what you are doing currently? Of course, you two are whining like two fuckboys who have no respect for anyone.
So Aiden wants to say Dickie is fast as hell. I guess you missed the part where I am quick on my feet and very agile. Let's not forget Jasmine and I are hungry to establish ourselves and if you two want to continue this little charade then we will be more than happy to crack your skulls open.
Jasmine smirks.
We are not afraid of two shitheads with a piss poor attitude. You two may think everyone loves you but sadly they all despise the fuck out of you. We don't like you. We aren't just "mean girls" like you think. We are two very capable professional wrestlers. We have being teaming for the majority of our careers and we have never broken up once.
