We open on the usual fare for a scene with Cleo, the PWS appointed cameraman only known as Anthony steadies the camera to focus on her, and the graffiti covered wall she’s leaning against, in her usual NYC ballcap, Gucci Shades, Set It Off shirt, and jeans torn in style. Clearly her ability to look cool hasn’t wavered as she looks ahead to the challenges that lay before her. Cleo: When I heard I was facing Jennifer Lopez this week, I sort of hoped Jenny From The Block had joined the wrestling business, but that would be ridiculous wouldn’t it? Of course, you never know what to expect in this business. But no, this is Jennifer Carpenter-Lopez, ex-wife of Eddie Lopez, mother of Gracie Lopez, sister of Who-gives-a-fuck Lopez.
Cleo stares directly into the camera, serious eyes hiding behind her sunglasses. Cleo: Look Jenny, I don’t know a whole lot about you. Honestly I don’t care. Knowing you pal around with the likes of Alexis Makarios is enough to tell me what sort of person you are. The company you keep reflects directly on you and Alexis is among some of the most annoying company walking around this place.
Her tones tells that she’s speaking truthfully, she believes the words she’s speaking. Fearless and full of conviction, she doesn’t seem concerned or worried about Jennifer at all. Cleo: I’m not really concerned with who your family is either. I’m just here to compete and be the best fighter I can be in that ring. Right now that means proving I deserve to have that championship match against Nick Madison. See I understand the easy argument to make that I don’t deserve it because I lost my match against Sanders. It make sense. I should get some wins under my belt before getting a chance against another championship. Well, I got one a few weeks ago against Richard Rider, and I have every intention of keeping that going straight through you Jennifer, and Nick? You should watch very close, because you need to be ready for what’s coming for you.
She keeps the shades on, but gives the camera a confident smirk. Cleo: You made the call, and I answered. So I think it’s fair to assume our paths will be crossing soon. The powers that be would be fools to let this one pass them up, and honestly we probably just did their work for them. Now they can focus on building the rest of the card….
Cleo pauses for a second and smiles herself waving a hand at the camera, a short laugh exiting her lips. Cleo: And there I go again, moving in the wrong direction. I need to stay focused on Jennifer. Nick will come in due time, but it’s bets focus on the obstacle in front of me right now. Jennifer, I need you to understand who the hell I am, and just what I can do.
Cleo stands up straight from the wall, and takers a few steps forward to the camera. Cleo: My name is Cleopatra Phillips, and I am the baddest bitch in PWS:Apex. I wasn’t brought up like you. I didn’t get to be a cheerleader, though to be fair I tended to skip school more often than actually attend, so maybe that one’s on me.
Cleo shrugs. Cleo: I may have only started fighting professionally a little over a year ago when I made my debut at last years Destiny, but I’ve been a fighter my entire life. It’s in my blood, it’s all I’ve ever known. Now I’m just working on a way to use it more positively. I had that taste of gold, and it’s something I want...no, something I need to experience again, and this time I won’t fuck it up. We learn and grow from our mistakes. Lord knows I’ve made many a mistake in my lifetime. As the late DMX once said, Lord I am not perfect by a long shot. My mistakes have taken me to some dark corners, places I’m not sure you’d be comfortable in. I’ve been spat on, punched, kicked, stabbed and shot, and I’ve spat on, punched, kicked, stabbed and shot. Can you say the same? I don’t think so.
Cleo takes a breath, pausing for just a moment. Cleo: I’m not saying you aren’t tough. From what little I could find out you’ve had success in this business and that doesn’t come easy. But I promise I am a whole different animal that anyone you’ve faced before, go watch what I went through with Sanders over these past months and understand that it isn’t a horror movie. That bad bitch you see refusing to stay down till the bitter end is coming for you next. Don’t let the loss fool you either, I challenge you to go up against Sanders and give him a better fight than I did. I’m staking my claim as the toughest female in PWS and I challenge anyone to refute that claim.
Cleo takes a few more steps, this time with some swagger, letting the camera get her close-up, she lowers her shades slightly, Anthony making sure the camera has her face in full frame as she leans forward into it. Cleo: Maybe it’ll be you Jennifer, maybe you’ll make me eat the words I’m saying. But I feel as though your best days are behind you, and my best days are still yet to come. We’ll have to see what happens when we finally meet in the ring. Again, just be sure you’re ready because I am abso-fucking-lutley going to SET IT OFF.
Cleo winks at the camera, and taps the lens, ending the scene with static. ------- The scene opens on a parking lot, scanning the lot waiting for someone. Soon we hear the fait sounds of a car radio blasting music, that gets progressively louder as it draws closer. #It drops deep as it does in my breath I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death Beyond the walls of intelligence, life is defined I think of crime when I'm in a New York state of mind
New York state of mind New York state of mind New York state of mind# A cherry red convertible screeches to a stop in front of the camera, being driven by Cleo Phillips. She gives the camera a smile. Cleo Phillips: Yo Anthony, good to see you. Get in, I wanna take you somewhere. Cameraman Anthony: This wasn’t part of the arrangement. Is it even safe to leave my car here? Cleo Phillips: Yeah, this is a safe spot, your good. Cameraman Anthony: Okay...because last time… Cleo Phillips: Yeah, my boy got shot. I know. If your wondering, he’s okay. He was in the hospital for a quick spell, but he’s making his recovery. I know he seemed goofy, but Zack is a tough dude underneath all that. Cameraman Anthony: Well, that’s good. Cleo Phillips: Now, c’mon. Get in, it’s just a few blocks.
It’s as though the viewer is moving into the passenger seat, and taking a ride with Cleo, music still blaring. #...Give me a Smith & Wesson, I have niggas undressin'
Thinking of cash flow, buddah and shelter..#
Cameraman Anthony: Can we at least turn the music down?
Cleo chuckles, and turns the dial, the music plays, but it’s quieter now.
#Young bitches is grazed, each block is like a maze Full of black rats trapped, plus the Island is packed#
Cameraman Anthony: So...where are we going this time? Cleo Phillips: You’ll see when we get there. I want my fans to know the real me, so I gotta show them where I come from you know? The places that made Cleo, Cleo. Cameraman Anthony: And you want me as your filmmaker?
Cleo laughs and shakes her head. Cleo Phillips: Well, we’re not shooting my Lifetime original movie or anything, but I did request you personally for my cameraman. Cameraman Anthony: Why me though? Cleo Phillips: Honestly, I don’t know; Maybe it just helps with consistency, when people see me, they know you’re the one taping. Plus we can build up a rapport or something between us. Cameraman Anthony: I’m flattered I guess. Keeps me working. Cleo Phillips: Well, I think we’re going to work great together.
#The smooth criminal on beat breaks Never put me in your box if your shit eats tapes
The city never sleeps, full of villains and creeps
That's where I learned to do my hustle had to scuffle with freaks.#
Cleo pulls to a stop on a random street corner, the radio continues to play out as she comes to a stop. #I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death
I lay puzzle as I backtrack to earlier times Nothing's equivalent to the New York state of mind New York state of mind New York state of mind# Cleo Phillips: Well, this is it.
As Anthony steps out, he takes the time to film the surroundings, nothing special jumps out, it looks like any other corner in New York. Cameraman Anthony: So..what’s so special about this corner in particular? Wait...I’ve seen some movies, is there where you like...sold drugs or something?
Cleo shakes her head. Cleo Phillips: No, that’s a different corner. I never did the dealing anyway. I was generally on the robbery team. Which is actually why we’re here. This is where they got me the last time. Cameraman Anthony: Got you? Like you got jumped?
Cleo shakes her head again. Cleo Phillips: This was where I got arrested for the last time. You know that gas station we met at? Big Mo’ and I went in there, pointed our guns at the cashier and made him empty the register. The guns were fake, a lot of the time they are in robberies, it helps lessen any possible sentencing. In any case, we got the money and took off. The whole thing took a matter of minutes. But we were careless, and he had already sounded the silent alarm. This is as far as I got before they had me surrounded. Cameraman Anthony: What about Big Mo’? Cleo Phillips: Oh, she kept running. They had me and I guess that was enough. I was the one carrying the cash. Cameraman Anthony: Kinda sounds like she let you take the fall….
There’s a moment of silence, we can see the realization fill Cleos eyes. Cleo Phillips:...Damn. You’re probably right. Some real shit right there. Never looked at it that way. Maybe she was always a fucking snake. Cameraman Anthony: Sorry...I didn’t mean to… Cleo Phillips: Naw, it’s all good. That’s what we’re here for. I’m about the growth now. This is the last spot I got arrested, and it will remain that. This spot is where the old Cleo Phillips ended. PWS is where the new Cleo Phillips was born and shall proceed into the future to anyone else who might find themselves in dark times. I want to show them there is a way out, if I can do it, so can they you know? Use your skills and hone them into something positive, and don’t let any past failures break you. Just pick yourself up and keep fighting, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. In the end, Sanders won the war, but like I’ve said I can NEVER be defeated. My losses don’t define me, my character and my fighting spirit does. Cameraman Anthony: Well damn if I don’t feel inspired. So I imagine next is the road to Nick Madison? Cleo Phillips: You guessed it. He wanted a real fight and I’m the one who can deliver the fight he needs, the fight he so desperately desires, and the fight that will be his ultimate failure. Cameraman Anthony: Well, I’m Team Cleo, that’s for sure. Cleo Phillips: Appreciate it. You’re a good dude Anthony, and I can tell you enjoy your work. It’s part of the reason I requested you from the dozens and dozens of random camera operators in PWS. I just need to keep the momentum up, Jennifer Carpenter-Lopez is just going to be another momentum booster on my road to the United Championship, and through me all the people who society ignores, all the people who are stuck in situations where they have to do unsavory acts to make money. It’s a rough life, but if I can inspire just one person to find their way out, I’ll have accomplished something. Cameraman Anthony: Well, best of luck to you. I guess I’ll be along for the ride in a sense. Cleo Phillips: You could say that I guess. C’mon, let’s get you back. Too many bad memories in this spot.
Once back in the car, Cleo starts the engine, and makes the drive back to the gas station, radio having moved on to a new song, in the background as the scene fades out. #I hear Brenda's got a baby But, Brenda's barely got a brain A damn shame, the girl can hardly spell her name (That's not our problem, that's up to Brenda's family) Well let me show ya how it affects the whole community.# #Now Brenda really never knew her moms and her dad was a Junky, went in death to his arms, it's sad 'cause I bet Brenda doesn't even know Just 'cause your in the ghetto doesn't mean you can't grow (you can't grow)#

“Who is Raylynn Bartholomew”
(Scene opens up at a local wrestling training center where we see the girls, minus Gracie. They start to wrap up the 3 hour session and start to cool off a bit before they take off and have lunch. An older man in his late 50s approached Jenn from behind, he tapped her shoulder and she almost jumped out of her skin before turning around.)
Jenn: Hi?
Man: Hey! I was told to talk to you about something, my name is Nigel… Nigel Bartholomew.
Jenn: Sure, I guess. What’s on your mind?
Nigel Bartholomew: Well, my daughter is looking for a place to train here in LA, and everyone pointed to you guys and I figured you could help me with it. Plus, I’ve heard alot about your wrestling career too and I think you would be a good fit to take her under your wig.
Jenn: Well, I don’t really like to take people under my wing you know? I’ll train them, sure, but once they break into the business, they’re on their own. I only give them advice if they need it. Look at my daughter and sister, they’re stars now and they don’t need me hanging on to them.
(Nigel nods his head in agreement, he didn’t like the answer she gave and he tries to walk away but she grabs his arm.)
Jenn: However, if it means this much to you, I’ll do it. I’ll help you daughter break into this business. Does she want to be a wrestler, mouthpiece, manager?
Nigel: She wants to wrestle but she said she’s open to do other things as well. Whatever gets her in the door.
Jenn: I’ll figure out something for her to do, she’ll be in great hands with us. And Eddie will help her too once he gets back from Hawaii. Normally this place is rocking with music and training but we’re about ready to head out.
Nigel: That sounds good! Thank you so much for helping her, she’s really excited about this.
Jenn: Is she here?
Nigel: Well, she should be in a few minutes.
Jenn: Well, we’re about to head to lunch but we can take her with us.
(Just then a beat up car with the front fender missing pulled up into the driveway, the look on Jenn’s face was priceless, it has a mixture of a judgement face and disgusted as well as shocked. The girl comes out, with a head full of pink and she walks up to Jenn and her dad.)
Nigel: Raylynn, this is Jenn, she’s going to help you break into the business.
(Ray extends her hand respectively, at first Jenn is hesitant to shake her head but she does it anyway with a empty smile on her face. Jenn knows she’s stuck with Ray but she’s going to make the best of it, and help the young lady achieve her dreams. The scene comes to a close with both of them waiting on Madison before heading out to lunch.)
“Facing a talented wrestler....”
(Scene opens up at Jenn’s place in LA, she was doing some cleaning around the house until a video call comes in on her phone. She drops the stuff she had in her head to get to the phone. She looked to see who’s calling her and she grew a big smile on her face. The person calling her is Gracie Lopez.)
Jenn: Hey kiddo, made it safely?
Gracie: Yeah I did and let me tell you, it feels amazing out here in Hawaii. I know you have the match with Cleo then you’ll be out here, but let me show you this view from the hotel.
(Gracie shows Jenn the ocean side hotel she had and it’s just beautiful, something you would see in a postal picture. The waves gently crash among the shore, almost calm to the air. Some people are on the beach from what she’s showing us but still, a place to wash your broken and tired body away.)
Gracie: I know it’s not a vacation right now, we have things to do and set up and it’s work but It’s gonna be worth it.
Jenn: I know, plus your dad is out there helping you. Did you catch up with him?
Gracie: Yeah I did, he was out on the beach, relaxing. He looks like a beached whale…
Jenn: I believe it!
Gracie: At least that would be what Lexi would say if she were here, but I know she needs the help. I miss that crazy lady….
Jenn: I do too but it’s for the best, and I’m sure she’s fine. She’s a tough one.
Gracie: Oh, I know but I hope she can get out before my wedding or else I’ll be down a bridesmaid . It's gonna be awkward for one of the ladies to dance with 2 guys…. With that part of the reception.
Jenn: I won’t be too worried about that. According to James, she’s making great strides and should be home before the 1st, and your wedding is on the 3rd. He said all she talks about is your wedding, and how she wants to be there. She’s gonna be there, trust me. She’s determined. Knowing her, she’s gonna take the first flight to Hawaii.
Gracie: I know but her being where she’s at, it’s another thing to stress over.
Jenn: She’s fine, you’re fine, this wedding will be fine. Just calm down, and take these couple of days to relax beforehand. After this match with Cleo, I’ll be heading out with Madison. We have a few matters to take care of in New York first.
Gracie: Yeah, the tag titles too! I can’t wait to see if you and your sister can win. When you and I were tag champions in a different time, I had fun.
Jenn: We did! But you wanna continue doing your singles stuff and I totally respect that. I’m the same way too you know? I don’t wanna be stuck in a tag team for the rest of my career. No disrespect to tag teams, but I work better on my own. The deal that you and I made will be the same thing with my sister too. It’s not a long term thing, it’s just for a little while.
Gracie: Yeah, well I guess you should talk about your opponent or something along those lines.
Jenn: Yeah, do you wanna listen too?
Gracie: Sure, I’ll just turn the mic on my phone off then.
(Gracie goes silent on her end which is a good thing. The place that she’s at is starting to get filled with customers for a lunch rush. Jenn moves around a bit to get comfortable.)
Jenn: Cleo, I know you read my bio and I know you’ve heard the stories of my career. But if you haven’t, then you’re gonna realize who I am. I’m not a friendly person, I’m not someone you can just throw around in the ring. There’s a reason why I hold 13 Championships to my name….
(Jenn shrugs her shoulders a bit.)
Jenn: Forget the tag teams. That’s the point in my career where people try to smear my name and think I’m just a tag team wrestler and that I lost a step or two. Nah, see…. I haven’t lost anything. It was MY choice to help my daughter and sister along in their careers. I mean take Gracie for instance, do you really think she needed me as a tag team partner? No. She’s a star on her own with her own legacy and her own championships to her name. She came to me and asked if we wanted to go for the tag titles and I told her yes, I would like that. That’s a backstory that you haven’t heard about till now. As far as my sister goes? She’s a champion in her own right, and she’s a budding star. I WANTED to form a team with her, and she agreed to it. It was and is an honor to tag with 2 talented wrestlers and I’ll do it in a heartbeat. Hell, I would even form a tag team with Lexi if she was up for it. But that’s not my specialty. It’s not how I made my career.
(Jenn looks back at the championships she has hung on her walls from different feds during her career, including the most current one she has.)
Jenn: Don’t let the date of my last match here fool you, I haven’t wrestled in this company since May and that’s an insult unto itself but that’s a different story for a different day. I wrestle for different places, in different cities and sometimes in different countries, even in this covid era of wrestling. I’m not a homebody, I never stay home. I’m always on the road and doing something with my career. Like after this match with you, I’m off to hawaii for a wedding and then maybe have a match out there as well, who knows.
(Jenn stands up from the couch to walk around a little but, you can see the wear and tear of this business on her body by the way she walks but she would never tell you that. Hell, Even Eddie wouldn’t tell you that either.)
Jenn: These championships are the reason I still have passion for this business even 12 years in and all the wars, legends and family I’ve faced to get them. I’m not done yet in my career, all the bumps, bruises and the injuries are worth it. My grandchild when they get old enough, can take everything I worked for and use it to further their career. Cleo, you’re gonna find that out. I’m not done yet, I’ve gotten started. Now, I’ve watched you since Destiny last year, and I’ve wanted to face you for the longest time and now? In this match on a free tv, I get the chance too. I get the chance to see how talented you really are, and I know we’re going to steal the show.
(As she starts to wrap up her talking points, someone rings the doorbell. Jenn looks back towards the door to see who it was. She wasn’t expecting any visitors currently. She opens the door.)
Jenn: Hello?
Female: HI! Ummm… just wondering is Eddie Lopez here?
Jenn: No, he’s in Hawaii at the moment and he won’t be back for a week. Why?
Female: Well, my name is Crystal Barnett and I’m looking for Eddie because he’s my dad….
(The color on Jenn’s face turns white as if she’s seen a ghost. She doesn’t know how to respond at first, and meanwhile, her phone is still on so Gracie got to hear what’s going on. Jenn looks at the girl in front of her, and starts to respond before the camera cuts out and blackness hits with no sound as well. So, we can’t get a full detail on what happened.)
