Just one shot… Detroit, Michigan 6 Years Ago.
Sierra sat backstage on an uncomfortable steel folding chair, her arms folded over her chest with a black Machine Head hoodie over her body and the hood pulled up, a few strands of her hair flowed out from it as she watched. Her brothers were in the ring, she was there to support them, sitting backstage though she had a sick feeling in her stomach. The other performers walking around talking freely, no one came up to her, no one introduced themselves. She sneered and shook her head. She got it, who was she?. She was just the younger sister of two very capable and respected indy stars who had become a very popular tag team in Canada and now North America.
Diego and Rico went about their work and she gave a small smirk, her eyes moving to a group of giggling girls. Tall, blond haired, blue eyed, untrained wannabes who had boob jobs and wanted to use this to get their looks out there. It made her angry, frustrated and her hands clenched together hidden under her arms. She tilted her head as she saw Diego fly over the top rope onto both opponents after an assist by Rico, the crowd popped so loud she could hear the walls rumble. This was just a small promotion, a weekly show that was put up on a streaming service with a handful of other local shows, but it was still out there, in front of over a thousand people. They were the tag team champions and everyone loved them.
She sighed realising she didn’t want to be there, this was night one of a two night extravaganza being promoted as the biggest show of the year coming out of Detroit, and she was nothing but a fucking passenger. Something caught her attention as she looked over at the direction of the noise. Dan Vrolik, the promoter, booker and owner of the company stormed out from the gorilla position looking at his phone.
Mr Vrolik: ”Mother fucker!...”
He looked over at the gaggle of blonde girls who had gathered looking concerned.
Mr Vrolik: ”Look Ladies, Melina is out of tomorrow nights opener, we might have to scrap the match cause we can’t find a third for team two”
There were groans and tuts and whining and crying.A small smirk came over Sierra lips, fuck em. Then it happened a small lightbulb went off and she looked over with a laugh pushing up off the steel chair to her feet approaching Dan with a little bit of trepidation and a hint of fear.
Sierra: ”Excuse me. Mr. Vrolik?”
He turned raising an eyebrow looking her up and down, Sierra reached up moving a little hair from her face pulling back the hood smiling a little before clearing her throat.
Sierra: ”I’m sorry to bother you but I overheard that you need someone for a match and, I think I can help.”
She paused for a moment, gauging his reaction, the other girls all turned their noses up and chuckled to themselves. Dan turned and with a movement of his hand dismissed them.
Mr Vrolik: ”What’s your name?
Sierra swallowed and took a deep breath.
Sierra: Sierra, Sierra Lopez…”
He raised an eyebrow and looked at the monitor, Diego and Rico had just gone into the finish, winning the match and the fans were going insane high fiving each other, he smirked and turned back to her.
Mr Vrolik: ”You’re their little sister right?, Oscar’s daughter?”
She gave another small nod biting her lip nervously.
Mr Vrolik: ”You have your work papers? VISA and license?”
She again gave a quick nod, Dan again looked at the monitor and the craziness that her brothers had caused. He laughed to himself and reached out patting her on the shoulder.
Mr Vrolik: ”You’re in ...be here at 2 tomorrow to go over a few things,.and Sierra?...this isn’t a promise….it’s an opportunity..…
The next day, post match.
The beads of sweat rolled down her brow as she sat backstage, the roar of the crowd echoing in her ears. The other girls hated her, she could feel it, see it, smell it, even taste it. They all sat at the other end of the large locker room licking their wounds and staring at her. Sierra didn’t care, she didn’t need anyone in here’s approval. She had the crowd. She had the lights in her eyes and the fans in her heart. Her tongue probed in her mouth touching a small cut on the inside of her lower lip, the taste of blood making her chuckle as the metallic flavor mixed with her spit.
Sierra turned her head spitting blood into the sink before letting out a small laugh, the door opening with a knock before a voice rang out.
Diego: ”Yo Si”
Diego was waiting, her hand drifted over to her black hoodie that she had worn to the ring before the match, she threw it over her body flipping the hood up before stopping near the door.
Diego: "Y'all need to train harder, less posing, more punching”
She went out into the hallway the door closing behind her as she took in a deep breath. Diego whispered something to Rico, he smiled and gave him a pat on the shoulder before turning and nodding at Sierra who beamed from ear to ear as she high fived Diego.
Diego: ”Well, don’t you look pleased with yourself?”
She just gave a small shrug, Diego letting out a laugh as he leaned against the wall, a shirt with her brother’s team name on his upper body. Sierra pulled a red bandana from her pocket tying it around her head, her long black hair flowing down her back.Diego pulled an envelope from his back pocket handing it to Sierra, she smiled and gave him a nod opening it.
Sierra: ”That was a lot of fun”
Diego laughed and waved at a few of the other wrestlers Sierra stopped counting and smiled looking at Diego holding up a handful of ’20s.
Sierra: ”This is double, there has to be a mistake”
Diego: ”it’s an advance….for your next appearance
Sierras jaw dropped as she looked at the money, a small note with a date on it,
Diego: ”It seems you made an impression. He wants you to get some new ring gear, to train non stop and to get some merch together.”
He stepped forward handing her a DVD.
Diego: ”He also said, send this to the companies listed, he made a video vouching for you with tonight’s match on it. It’ll get you booked”
She stood speechless, it all hit her at once, the one chance she took, speaking up yesterday and what she showed in the ring, it all came to a head.Diego leaned in giving his sister a hug.
Diego: ”You did good kid”
Failure.
It seemed as if she was very sombre. Usually Sierra was filled with anger, emotion. But this time the look in her eyes was that of someone quiet and contemplative. Her long red hair tied back. She had her hands clasped together. Her green eyes staring right ahead.
Sierra: “Since the start of my professional wrestling career I have lived with one main motto in my head. It’s something that other people believe in to but at times like this, it’s definitely pertinent. You learn your greatest lessons, from losses. And this has been one hell of a lesson. I was so close that I could taste it, every move the connected, every rush of adrenaline, drew me closer and closer to achieving a goal that I’ve had since I first stepped foot inside a professional wrestling ring. I’ve always wanted to hold the championship. And some people say that I have. But I achieved my goal. And I will always cherish the time I spent teaming with my husband and winning those mixed tag team championships.”
“The thing is, I want to win a championship that is all me. Something where it’s not me relying on a partner, where it is just Sierra Williams. Coming so close and then failing, it’s a broken heart. Then again, it’s not all doom and gloom.”
“I can take a lot of positives out of my performance.“
“I went in there with someone who is fear. A dominant champion. And I made a competition of it. Such a competition that there is part of me that believes if I get a second crack at Mack McKane, I could walk out with that championship. But, who knows if I’m gonna get that opportunity? I have no right to it, I have no stake to claim. And it seems as if Mack is going to go on with his little feud against Everett Jacobs. So what do I do? Where do I go from here? Well, it would seem that where I go from here is against Alexis Mackarios…”
Sierra takes a long deep and drawn out breath. She holds it in her lungs and then as she exhale she opens her eyes. Obviously trying to calm herself down, to not think about the defeat and the fall from grace.
Sierra: “Alexis is someone who I actually respect. Believe it or not. This red haired Aussie, she has a very similar attitude to me. Much like me she’s multicultural. Greek descent, born and raised in Australia. Wrestling in America. She clearly doesn’t give a shit what most people think and she isn’t a little pretty princess. No, Alexis is someone who will get in the ring and punch you right in the mouth and will want you to do the same. That I can look forward to. See, I know that when I get in the ring with Alexis it’s going to be a fight. I know I can mat wrestle, I know I can fly around the ring, I know more submissions than I’ve ever actually wanted to learn. But this time, I need to make a statement. I need to show off. So this is going to be a knock down drag out fight.”
“And I have a feeling Alexis will like that.”
“Alexis has taste of victory before. She’s been a champion before. She’s had some of that hunger satiated by her success. And I know that success leads to more success and the problem is that I’m hungry. I need to keep winning, I need to keep going. And right now, Alexis is just on my way. And I need to get into that room and remove her. I need to remove her like she is just inanimate object, just an obstacle that needs to be cleaned. I can’t look at her as another competitor and I can’t let my respect for her attitude sway me. I don’t know Alexis personally, I don’t know her life, her family, her goals or dreams. I have to make judgments about who she is and what she is about based off small snapshots of her in the ring and the promotional material.”
“It’s a difficult thing to do.”
She raises her eyebrows and let’s a small smirk go while she stares at the camera.
Sierra: “Then again, Alexis has to do the exact same thing with me. But I’m very forthcoming with my goals, my family, the pressure that I put myself under. I don’t have to try and live up to any standards of my parents set for me, all of my siblings have. Out of all of my siblings I’m the only one who has been on a national and international scale when it comes to this business. I have achieved more than my father ever thought I would in the professional wrestling business because he never wanted me to be a professional wrestler.”
“All the pressure that I have, your stuff that I’ve put on myself. And I do this because I normally thrive under pressure. But this time the pressure is just…. It’s like I’m surrounded by heavy air. I feel like it’s pushing on my lungs. And the only way to relieve this pressure is to make a statement and remind them why I was able to get a championship opportunity against Mack to begin with. You are my way back to the top Alexis, nothing more, nothing less. And you are going to get a hungry, angry, force of nature that is under a lot of pressure.”

**The scene opens up inside the brand new home of James and Alexis. It was filled with boxes that needed unpacked. They sat down on the couch, looking rather exhausted.**
Alexis: Man, things are going so good right now. We got this amazing new home, We got married in a BEAUTIFUL little ceremony, I beat that sniveling little Alanah. And now…
James: And now, it’s time to relax.
Alexis: Ugh, I wish. No rest for the weary.
James: Ah, yes, the match with Sierra?
Alexis: Yeah. Something with it just doesn’t sit right with me. I mean, she FAILED to beat that knife wielding psychopath Mack McKane. And they are just gonna toss her up against me? I mean COME ON.
James: I don’t really see much of the connection here…
Alexis: She is Alanah’s sister in law. I’m sure she is gonna be “out for blood”. I mean, “Alanah’s family” blah blah blaaaaaaah. Whatever, she’s not that good anyways. Isn’t she on some big ole losing streak right now that has her all focused on the negative?
James: I think so… hey, how about I go get us some dinner. Anything particular you want?
Alexis: Something deep fried and greasy.
James: Got it.
(He gave her a kiss on the cheek and left the room. As soon as he did she pulled out her phone and made a call. She held the phone up as you see Jennifer Carpenter-Lopez and Gracie Lopez on the screen in a video chat.)
Jenn: Hey, Lexi.
Gracie: What’s up?
Alexis: Oh, just taking a break from the unpacking. It never seems to end!
Jenn: If we were there, we’d help ya.
Alexis: I know ya would. Just kinda chilling and relaxing before things get back into swing for PWS. Relocating from Vegas to New York is either gonna work out amazingly, or it’s gonna be the biggest flop ever. Oh well I guess time will tell.
Gracie: Don’t you have a match against Sierra?
Alexis: Yeah. Could be interesting, but probably not. Doesn’t matter. I don’t give a shit and a half about anything she says or does. I barely even know who she is outside of her connection to “them”. But it is what it is. I got one focus right now, and that’s the new teaming between me and Heather.
Jenn: Gonna try and get them Tag belts?
Alexis: Hell yeah. Gotta keep up with you guys!
(Jenn and Gracie chuckle as the three continue to chit chat as the scene fades to black)
ooc: I'm sorry. just... i'm sorry
