This was it, the day that for the last two weeks have been plaguing his mind. He knew it was over before this, the relationship. but leaving had a certain finality to it. Boxes packed full of his entire life, his clothes, electronics, the furniture that he brought with him but have been flat packed down after being taken apart. Everything has been taped up, his new address written on them. Flo was at work, Aiden sighed deeply not knowing if he should wait to say goodbye, or just send her a text message later. It was an interesting question, what was appropriate? They had already broken up, they had said their goodbyes in a manner of speaking.
Their relationship laid buried in the dirt. Date of death was two weeks ago.
He walked through the lounge room, his eyes going over the couch where they had shared their first kiss. He couldn’t help but smile, despite the relationship ending he still had so many good memories. They just weren’t right for each other. At least that’s what they both told themselves. But the truth is, and this is what made Aidens head hurt and his heart beat faster and made anger go through his veins. It was Florence’s fault. It was her attitude and her way of thinking that she could change Aiden once they got married.
She knew what he was like, she knew exactly the kind of person Aiden was. His fun loving and free-flowing attitude, the way he would live his life. She loved him, or so she said. But as soon as they got married anything he did would be a problem. Things that he did when they were just dating that Florence would laugh at suddenly became something that would cause arguments, disagreements, and fights. Thing is, Aiden hated feeling like he was getting up without a fight. He had been through it all before. A few years before the only other relationship that he considered to be serious.
A life that was filled with random encounters, one night stands and drunken fun. There were two women in his life that he actually loved and cared about. He married one of them, and walked away from the other to save her. But now as he stood here in the ashes of his second failed relationship and the one where he honestly thought it was the end, his heart sank to the bottom of his stomach. And his mind floated back to Japan, back to her. Maybe he was the problem.
He swallowed hard staring off into nothing. He took a long deep breath closing his eyes, and then he felt it, Willow’s head and body rubbing up against his leg. He smiled looking down at her. He lightly crouched down scratching the back of her ear, Willow grunted and trotted off towards a box pushing her head against it. It’s where he had packed away all of her things. Aiden shook his head and took a few steps towards her giving the top of her head a pet.
His phone buzzed, he turned and looked down at it. A text message from the moving company alerting him that they were downstairs ready to come up and grab all of his things. I suppose his decision was now made for him. Aiden reached over grabbing a leash and willows harness. He dropped one knee and fastened it around her.
”Well, time to go girl.“
He held onto the leash, moved over and undid the latch on the door opening it and letting the movers in. He sighed deeply and his phone buzzed again, he looked down at it smiling as he read who the message was from. He muttered under his breath, “You’re funny Blondie.“
A dull blade
”Well, the dream of Aiden two beltz is still alive and kicking eh?”
He couldn’t help but smile, that cocky boyish grin.. One that so many people couldn’t hate.
“I sat here and I told the world exactly what was going to happen. But it didn’t quite come out the way I thought it would. I honestly thought I was gonna win, that I’d be going on a face Mack the knife for the Apex world title. But, it wasn’t in the cards and instead I’m going to go against Heather Haze for the Collateral damage championship. And in a weird twist of fate Heather and her tag partner seem to have set their sights on me an Dickie”
“They want our titles. They haven’t earned a shot. But they want one. But see, I have a title shot...that I earned”
“And that seems to be the problem with people today. People who want things handed to them instead of earning them. Dickie and I earned our championships, he earned his championship in project owner, I owned my championship shot here in Apex.”
Aiden laughed to himself moving around his makeshift apartment. Boxes stacked high, a small rollout bed on the floor. Willow in her bed next to it. Holy shit is Aiden staying in a fucking storage container?
“I guess the cat seems to be out of the bag when it comes to how good I am. Dickie and I came here to win those tag titles into establish the division. But then again, it isn’t the only thing I’m good for and not the only thing he’s good for. Apex has superstars on their hands, and it’s about time they accepted it. Now, I know Dickie has his problems with the higher-ups here, and that is his issue. But me? I’m good with where I’m at.”
“And, where I’m at is getting ready to jump in the ring, and face Chris Blade one on one.”
“Now, I know a lot of people are used to taking Chris blade kind of lightly. But let’s face it the blokes a former world champion. It was one world title, and no one can actually remember where it was or what he did. But he saw the former world champion. So therefore you need to give the bloke a little bit of respect. With that being said I need to use him to make a statement.”
“So, that’s what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna go out there, I’m gonna get in the ring with Chris blade and I’m gonna show why Heather Haze has gotta watch her back.“
