A letter from Grandma
(The scene opens up inside of Gracie’s house in LA. We see her reorganizing her house for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. She has boxes with her name it, that she got from her grandma, she has yet to open because she’s not ready for that just yet. She starts moving some stuff around including a bag, that’s overfilled. An Envelope falls from it, with Gracie moving the box, she’s unaware of it until the camera person sticks her arm out. Gracie turns around, not knowing what the camera person is pointing at.)
Gracie: what? Do I have something on my pants?
(No answer is given. Gracie raised her right eyebrow, she grew a sly smile on her face. )
Gracie: You know you can talk right? You don’t have to be a mute all the time.
(A few seconds of awkward silence fell between the 2 of them before the camera person decided to speak up for the first time.)
Female voice: There’s an envelope by your feet, that you dropped when you moved that bag.
Gracie: Now was that too hard?
(Gracie grew a mocking smile on her face as she bends down to pick up the envelope that has her name on it in cursive. After picking it, she looked at the handwriting and knew who wrote it. She froze for a second.)
Female Voice: you going to read it? I think you should.
Gracie: I’m not sure Kayla. Do you want me too?
Kayla: Sure, I think it’ll help.
(The camera person’s name is finally revealed to be Kayla. Gracie looks at the letter for a second before walking towards her chair. She took a seat on it, her cat Lucy took it upon herself to jump on Gracie’s lap and crawl up in a ball. Kayla brings the camera over while Gracie opens up the envelope.)
Gracie: “Dear Gracie,
I wrote every grandchild of mine a letter, but yours has more of a special meaning since you’re the first grandchild. I remember the day you born like it were yesterday, though I didn’t agree with your parents becoming teenage parents, I had to learn to deal with it. The first day your parents brought me to the hospital to meet you was the first time I shed a tear, not because I was sad, but because I was happy. Seeing you with your big brown eyes and bald head, I couldn’t help but smile. I watched you grow from being a baby in an incubator to be an incredible young woman that your mother would be proud of. The relationship you have with your dad, I wish I had with him. I know him and I have our struggles, but I’m always there for you him no matter what, I may be gone when you receive this letter but I’m always going to be there for my babies. I’m going to be reunited with your mom and we’re going to watch you as you live your dream as being a wrestler, and we’re going to have the best seats in the house. In closing, please don’t cry because I’m gone, be happy for the memories we shared, the laughs we had. This isn’t a goodbye, it’s a see you later. When we meet again, I’ll be happy to open the gates for you and the family. I know you’ll be strong, you’re the toughest woman I’ve known. I’m so proud to have been your grandma, keep your dream alive.
Love, Grandma”
(Kayla looks over towards Gracie after the letter was read. She can see a tear coming down from Gracie’s eye, so she made it over to her and gave her a big hug.)
Kayla: She loved you and she’s proud of you.
Gracie: I know. I just….
Kayla: It’s ok. I’m here.
Gracie: I know. I’m just glad that she wrote this letter though, and every grandkid got one. That’s the best part of all of this. I’m sure my dad got one too. Even though they didn’t see eye to eye on stuff.
Kayla: I’m glad too.
Gracie: I’m glad you’re here for this with me.
Kayla: Course, it’s what friends do.
Gracie: Let’s get back to work, and finish this house.
Kayla: Are you sure?
(Gracie grew a small smile on her face with a slight nod.)
Gracie: yeah. We have a lot of people coming, including Jenn’s sister.
(Gracie puts her cat on the ground as she stands up, she helps Kayla off the seat as well with a smile. She goes back to work on cleaning the house up, but that letter is still on her mind, but it gave her a new outlook moving forward instead of trying to shut people out and with her friend Kayla by her side, she feels emotionally better, still physically drained, however. The scene comes to an end with the girls working on making the house more… lively)
-Day After thanksgiving.-
(The scene opens up at a local airport in LA where Gracie Lopez keeps her airplane. She’s seen standing by it as they get it loaded for the Japan flight. She also has her friend with her, the camera person named Kayla, but she isn’t holding a camera since it’s being loaded into the plane as well as Gracie’s stuff.)
Kayla: I’m excited!
Gracie: Why?
Kayla: I’ve never been to Japan before. So, this is the first big trip out of the states for me.
(Gracie grew a smile on her face, she seems happy for her friend that she can go on this trip with her. A trip that Gracie had made a few times before. Gracie can see the nerves of her friend, but she knows nothing bad will happen.)
Gracie: Yeah, I figured when you came with all that camera stuff. I’ll make sure you get some time to tour around. For me, this is a trip I’ve taken many times before, so I can hit you up with some of the fancy spots.
Kayla: sounds like fun! Hey, Thanksgiving was fun. I mean your stepmom got to meet her sister, they seem to be getting along just fine.
Gracie: I’m glad that we got to witness it. Jenn’s been nervous about meeting her to a point where she almost got sick by it. But I’m glad they’re getting along, I just hope that the parents don’t come around and ruin it for them.
Kayla: Jenn doesn’t get along with her parents?
Gracie: They disowned each other a while back, it’s a long story I can tell you in private.
Kayla: Sounds like a plan to me. We have what? 8 hours to kill?
Gracie: Try 12.
Kayla: 12!? You didn’t tell me that!
(Gracie chuckles at her friend’s reaction, she nodded her head slowly. The plane is ready to go, Gracie and Kayla enter the plane, Kayla was the first to go in, followed by Gracie.)
Gracie: So, tell the people watching who you are, please don’t make it like a dating service.
Kayla: Oh, I wouldn’t do that. Anyway. I’m Kayla. Gracie and I have been friends for the better part of 5 months now. I’m the person behind the camera when she does her promos. I’ve also been her biggest support system since her grandma died, I didn’t want her to battle this by herself, I’ve been through it this year too. I just want to make sure she doesn’t go off the deep end. I’m also her roommate, she asked me to move in with her just before her grandma passed, and I said yes.
Gracie: Yeah, since my friends all left California, I can count on Kayla to be there. I had a few breakdowns but Kayla’s been there every step of the way.
(Kayla grew a big smile on her face with a nod of her head as well.)
Kayla: Normally, I don’t like being on this side of the camera, but Gracie told me not to be shy anymore when she read her grandma’s letter, soo, here I am today!
(The plane gets ready to take off as the girls strap into their seatbelts. After a few minutes, the plane is in the air for Japan. Once in the air, the food comes out.. the food that the girls get is steak and potatoes. The girls eat their meal before they talk again.)
Kayla: That was pretty good.
Gracie: Yeah, they always make good food for me, make sure I’m fed. Now see if we were on a normal airline, we wouldn’t get food like this. It’ll be pre-made stuff….yuck.
Kayla: There is nothing wrong with premade stuff!
Gracie: Whoaaaaa. Calm down there. Just gonna put me in my place like that?
Kayla: sure am!
Gracie: Whoa… Then maybe you should be wrestling Bella and i can sit back and relax?
Kayla: Oh… no… no, no. That’s your job. Speaking of…. I guess we should talk about her and how you got into this match.
Gracie: you know, you’re right. We should.
Kayla: How do you want to start?
Gracie: How we got this match…
Kayla: It seems like a good start for me.
Gracie: Yeah, a little bit of storytime.
Kayla: Good.
Gracie: Let’s start about a month ago shell we? About a month ago, a girl started to throw a hissy fit because she wasn’t getting any tv time and she cried foul because she wants getting any tv time and blamed management for her. Mind you, this girl hasn’t done ANYTHING to get tv time, and she has a forgettable character that anybody would easily miss.
Kayla: ouch….
Gracie: It’s true, Kay. She wasn’t anything special, hell… enforcer was better at this than she was. Anyway, this company was giving her stuff on a silver platter and she was still bitching! Bitch, bitch, that’s all she did, I’m sitting on the sidelines because at this point, my grandma had passed, I’m like shut upppp! They’re giving you opportunities and you’re not taking it! That’s one thing that gets under my skin, if they give you an opportunity, TAKE IT, DON’T BITCH!
(Gracie lets out a loud heavy sigh with a hint of being annoyance too)
Gracie: Long story short, that bitch left the company and left Bella without an opponent. That’s where I decided I had enough, I can’t keep seeing Bella being treated this way, I can’t. She’s too nice of a person to be shit on by a lousy bitch. This brings me to Hawaii….
Kayla: Ahh, Hawaii!
Gracie: Yes! Hawaiiiii. You and I had a good vacation going until I decided I had enough and I HAD to make this right. I left you here, so I got to get to Osaka on time, which I barely did. I arrived just before the show started. We did the thing, and the match was made. Let’s just say that whole week…. Was a blur. Not to mention I had to come back to Hawaii to pick you up since you ran out of money….
(Kayla grew this big sly smile on her face.)
Gracie: I coulda just left you there!
Kayla: but you didn’t! Cuz you like me.
Gracie: Don’t push it!
Kayla: That was a long week for you because as soon as we got home, we fell asleep on the couch. You never do that.
Gracie: First time for everything, I guess.
Kayla: So, Bella?
Gracie: Bella and I have been through everything together, legit. I’ve known that girl since we were crawling around MSG together causing trouble while our parents were out wrestling with each other. Her and I seen each other grow into the people we’ve become, she’s a sass ball, which I love. She knows me a person as a person has no filter, I say what’s on my mind and I don’t give 2 shits whose feelings I hurt.
Kayla: Sounds like a good friendship.
Gracie: It is honestly. She’s one of the first friends I got in this business. I can’t say anything bad about her, however, the last 2 weeks she’s been on Riot, I don’t like the way she approached being left the card, to me it felt…. Snarky, and a bit bitchy if you ask me. But I know where she’s coming from, and I’d be the same way if I’m honest. She had to carry Trina until she left. Bella was exhausted and frustrated.
Kayla: How about the match?
Gracie: The match…. It’s going to be a highly competitive match for sure. I consider this match to be an upgrade for Bella and the fans and the management alike. This match is going to blow the roof off of the dome, to a point where the Yomiuri Giants won’t have a dome to play in, they’ll have to play outside. Yes, I know they had matches in this dome before, but… Bella and I can outdo them. The last match we had we only went at half speed, we didn’t even get started before a couple of nobodies ruined it for everyone.
(Gracie starts thinking back to the match they had a few months ago, shaking her head in disgust as she does. It’s not how she wanted the match to end, and makes her angry every time she thinks about it)
Kayla: Uh oh…. I don’t like that look. I mean you look cute when you’re angry tho.
Gracie: hey now.
Kayla: it’s true! Anyway, what’s with the look?
Gracie: I don’t want to feel like a sob story because I’m not, don’t feel sorry for me. But at the end of the day, I need this match more then anybody can imagine. I haven’t wrestled in over a month, I’ve had issues to work out and now that I’m mentally and physically ready to be back in that ring, I need this. I refuse to let people ruin it just because it’s to “make a name” for themselves. If anybody thinks about doing that, I won’t be responsible for my actions. If you think it’s nothing more then an empty promise…. TRY ME.
(Kayla sits back and listens to her friend talk, she loves this aggressive side to her but she’s just going to let her talk.)
Gracie: This match is about passion, about the future and most important… legacy. See, this match isn’t just a normal one on one match, no, it’s about generational wrestlers who have it in their blood, it’s about 2 kids in that ring with their hall of fame parents watching in the back as their children tear it down like they used to do back in their heyday. This match isn’t about titles or open challenges for a title or any of that. 2 people, 2 legacy’s, 2 passionate people. Bella, I promised myself I wasn’t going to say anything bad about you, and I’ve kept my promise. You’re welcome on this upgraded match, it’s a lot better then what you were supposed to have, and we’re going to have fun, trust me.
(Gracie nods with a smile as if she’s done with she wanted to say about her upcoming match. She knows in for a fight, but she’d rather have it with someone she knows instead of being left off the card.)
Gracie: Do you wanna watch a movie?
Kayla: Sure, what do you have?
Gracie: Any.
Kayla: Let’s take a look then.
(The scene comes to a close with the girls trying to figure out what movie to watch, and a bit of an argument when they do choose, with different movies. They finally come to an agreement on Wall-e. They watch for the next few hours as the plane is still en route to Japan from California.)

How do you do this? How do you take on one of your best friends? Especially after what happened last time.Yes, the monster is not around....doesn’t mean it doesn’t loom in the back of my head. If I’ve learned anything from my encounters...the monster is never gone.Don’t let anyone fool you otherwise. But still, how do you do this?Too bad some people are just straight cowards, took their ball and went home.~*~*~*~There’s Nothing Like Family~*~*~*~ Madison House Thanksgiving Night Silence fills the home after a day of friends and family talking, laughing, eating and eating and eating. For now football is on the TV in the living room. Overall it was a great day to just be able to see everyone with not having to worry about work, it’s been a hell of a year for all of us. And see the looks on Alanah and Mal’s faces as they celebrate with us their first American Thanksgiving made it all that much better. But for now...silence. Mom and I have spent so much time just cleaning up as Aunt Cam took off a little early because she’s one of those psychos that likes to do the Black Friday shopping.“You know something kid...a few months ago, I didn’t think doing something like this would have been possible.” mom said to me as she finishes drying the counter. “We were all on so many different paths, but my house is still in one piece, I don’t have to call a major cleaning company to clean up any food fights...though don’t think I didn’t see you and Jack threatening the other with a spoon full of potatoes.” I couldn’t help but laugh as I sipped from my water bottle “Yeah, that’s gonna be a thing sooner or later. We haven’t had a good food fight in a while.”“Not in my house missy.” Mom looks deadpan at me “It’s bad enough I’m cleaning up after your brother and Nick.”“Speaking of dad, what’s he need for Christmas? I have been scouring like hell and nothing I find seems good enough.”“Oh kid, you know him, he has everything and wants for nothing. Just focusing on spoiling your little brother, that should be enough for him.” she grabs what was left of the red wine and pours a couple of glasses and hands one off to me.I just sigh and plop my butt on the counter, “I know but after this year, things are....rocky between us. I don’t want to not get him something.”“I’m sure you’ll think of something before we get there, we got a few weeks. I think having you here for dinner was a step in the right direction and keeping the peace between everyone too.” she just smiles at me the way moms do. “You two going to Alanah’s thing at Christmas?”“I’m pretty sure that’s the plan, unless Mal has other things in mind. I’m not sure if he’s big on this whole holiday thing.”“Too cheerful for him?”I just shrug, “Well, I mean, he could surprise me but things have calmed between him and Lach since they killed each other in that match. Him and Lanah are kosher as far as I know, but you know Mal.” I say taking a sip from my glass “Oscar to the end...though him playing with Aaron on Sunday was something, even if he still trying to write it off like he was trying to keep him calm”“Yeah, I’m sorry but no one will buy that one.” laughing the whole way. “Either way, neither one of us are too worried about it, we’re just enjoying things now. I’m still highly pissed off about the whole Trina situation. Been trying not to let it get to me but it still is!” I just chug the rest of my wine and grab the bottle from the other side of mom, “I have been over and over this in my head, she was the one that was looking for a challenge, she was the one that took it upon herself to not only insult Star but you! She was begging for a fucking challenge and just because Mack defends Mattie, all of a sudden it’s all ‘TOO REAL!’. It’s fucking bullshit, mom.”“Yeah, I know kid. She copped out real quick when she realized that suddenly her little insults weren’t going to fly. But screw her, we’re better off without her negative bullshit around now. And Gracie is back from her stuff with her family, she stepped up and you and her are going to put on one hell of a display at Last Rites.”“I didn’t want a display. I wanted an actual full on feud. Like the stuff you had back in PWSR and WF and all those places. The stuff you made your name from. That’s what I was looking for! Nothing against Gracie, but this isn’t a feud! It’s a match between friends and trying to right the wrongs of what happened when Syn was playing his bullshit games.” I look down at my glass and just sit in on the counter, “I’m just...I’m at the point where I was hoping for more. I’m grateful to Gracie for stepping up....it’ll be a better matchup between us for sure but...fuuhhhh”“Someday kid, you’ll get that. I promise.” All parents need to say that...she means it. “Until then, you got your legacy battle with one of your best friends and then we get to breathe a little bit. I have a feeling 2020 is going to be even crazier than this year was.”“You get that feeling too, huh?” I said with a smile on my face.“Pssst...you guys....” Alanah snuck into the kitchen almost whispering and waving frantically, “You have GOT to see this.”I slide off the counter and follow mom and Alanah out into the living room area. Jack is passed out on one of the couches, Nick snoring away in the recliner.“Wait...where’s Aaron?” mom spoke up with concern. “Last I checked he was with Nick.”Alanah tiptoes over to the longer couch and points down with a big smile on her face, “Look look look”We walk over and look down and there is a sleeping Malachi, holding on to my 10-month old baby brother who has passed out on his chest.....“I’m getting my phone, no one wake him up.” I say taking off for the kitchen.“I need to get my phone too!” With Alanah right behind me.... “Huh...Well, I’ll be damned.” mom says looking down at them. ~*~*~*~Frustrations~*~*~*~ Home New York Music blaring. Halestorm. Something about Lzzy Hale’s voice brings out that beast in me and I’m currently trying to bust the seams on the punching bag. Working up quite the sweat too. Need to work off that Thanksgiving dinner somehow. “BELLA!!!”Mal comes into the gym area and sees Bella beating the shit out of this poor defenseless bag and stops in his tracks for a moment, as if he’s almost reconsidering his decision to interrupt her. He walks over to the sound system, opens up her phone just to get met with a picture of him and Aaron asleep and looks back at her with almost a glare but just taps the pause button and suddenly things go silent. “HEY! Could you not??” I say, catching my breath and glaring at him.“Sorry love, but you said to come get you in 2 hours, I gave you 30 extra minutes. Plus I could hear that as clear as day 2 flights up! What did you do? Add 3 more speakers?”I just roll my eyes and turn back to the punching bag laying in a few more shots, “Bose....quality.” “And expensive. Black Friday deal?” making his way across the room and holds onto the bag as I lay in another shot.“Actually my grandfather gave em to me, he asked me to help update his whole sound system....so I brought in Spinelli and Spinelli already has top of the line and it was passed down to me. Simple enough.” And I stop and look at him, “Don’t dare call me spoiled.”He leans on the bag and smirks with those blue eyes smiling too “I was gonna just go with ‘Brat Princess’” *THWACK* High kick to the bag which he knew was coming and moves just in time, “You’re high kick is getting better”“Yeah well after coming up short in SCW a few times I’ve been working on a few things, I’m not going to let it deter me, if anything it’s going to get me working even harder. Hence the whole drenched in sweat.” I go to swing again but he stops me, “Yeah, figured that’d be the case, hence the extra 30, but you need a shower and we gotta finish packing for Japan. I got a title to win and you are facing Gracie. Your mother will gut us if we are late and I’m just getting on her good side. I mean, I could just let you take all these frustrations out on me but your mother would then hate me because I’ll be out of the biggest match of the show that I managed to work my ass off for. So, I’ll leave that up to you...“I glare at him, and he can’t help but laugh and give me a quick kiss, “Yeah yeah...shower.” I just turn on my heels as he swats me on the ass, I stop turn and jump on him and wrap my arms around him making sure he gets nice and covered.“AW MAN! Now I gotta shower and change....we’re gonna be late for sure now.” “Hey, you started it. Besides we can save a ton of time if we shower together.”He just raises his eyebrows hoist me up and makes his way out of the room, “Says who? Now she really can blame me...but you tell her.”I swear, he’s always tryin to get me in trouble. Meh....worth it.~*~*~*~Legacy~*~*~*~ What I wanted vs. What I got Tokyo I won't lie, it feels alright to see your name in lights,We all need an 'Atta boy' or 'Atta girl'But in the end I'd like to hang my hat on more besidesThe temporary trappings of this world.I stand in the center of the ring, inside the Tokyo Dome. Last Rites. Last show of 2019. I should feel something....but...“I don’t. I don’t know why this whole damn thing is getting to me. Fuck you Trina, fuck you for fucking this whole fucking thing up. I should be beating your ass into the mat. I hope you found your peace or whatever the fuck it was you were looking for, but fuck you for what you did.”That felt good...“You have no idea how emotionally frustrated I am with this whole situation. My feelings are all over the map. I should be in a hot feud after the bullshit that we all went through this year...instead, I get a chance to right a wrong.”I just pace around the ring calmly, not looking at the camera.“You see, a few months ago, when I was being harassed and stalked...almost burned alive...I wanted nothing more than to just prove myself in this ring. The next big up-and-comer, ‘Next Gen Not to Be Fucked With’ star. Gracie and I took it to each other only to have it fucked up by the Darkest Carnival.”I just stop and shake my head.“It pissed me off to no end because we were suppose to, on that night, figure out who would lay it out on the line for the next round of Madison/O’Neil vs. Lopez. There were some great battles in PWS a few years ago between Eddie and my mom. It was all about titles and ego. It was all about being the best. And what do Gracie and I get?”I look at the camera....“Bragging rights....I mean, yeah, she’s been gone for a bit, she’s had family things happen with her grandma and I give her props because she will tell you, she wasn’t really ready to come back after that. Lord knows if I was in the same position like that, like my mom was 3 almost 4 years ago....I couldn’t. But she did. When I laid the challenge out, Gracie stepped up. And that’s why I love her to death. Because she didn’t get scared off by some dick bag getting his attitude adjusted by Mack defending Mattie. She wants to right the wrongs too.”I continue to pace.“The Lopez family...5 generations. Championships, Hall of Fames...an amazing legacy that sets the bar high and knowing that on any given day the switch can flip. Gracie is just the latest in that line, you don’t think I don’t know she can beat me? I DO! In fact, friendship be damned, I want her to fucking bring everything she’s got. at me. Bring it ALL because I have a lot to get out. I wanted a war. And I get the next chapter in the long standing saga of Madison vs. Lopez. And while the O’Neil’s and Madison’s have been around for just 2, of those, something happened, something changed....Legacy....Legacy is a funny word because it only means so much and only goes so far after a while. This is the bragging rights match that should have been those months ago Gracie....but after that things have gotta change. Something in the new year and the new season...something has got to change. Something bigger is looming, it’s bigger than any of us. I’ve been trying to avoid it for weeks, this nagging feeling in the back of my head. It’s more than championships....it’s more than legacies. Fuck legacies at this point. We just need to fight to win. Here’s your chance Grace, we fight to win. Legacy be damn. We fight. To. Win. Whatever your reasons may be. I fight to win...THAT is what my legacy is.”I stop one last time, this time bending down and bringing up my ring jacket up, the one that was my mom’s...the one that was detailed to be slightly different.“I started this journey, with my mom’s jacket and a dream. At Last Rites, though it’s not what I wanted, I’ll make the best out of what I get and Grace, my bestie...that’s beating you.”I simply slide it on, throw up the hood and give a simple smirk and a wink.“Because I am an O’Neil, I am a Madison and I guess in a way, we’re all Russows. Bring your best Lopez...”I want to leave a legacy,How will they remember me?Did I choose to love?Did I point to you enough? To make a mark on thingsI want to leave an offeringA child of mercy and graceWho blessed your name unapologeticallyAnd leave that kind of legacy.Song used: Nichole Nordeman - Legacy
