Osaka, Japan Earlier this evening
The camera opened up on Apex’s new United Champion, the “Irish Rose” Alanah O’Connell sitting in the living room of the small apartment she was currently sharing with Jack Russow while they were in Osaka for this week’s edition of Riot. Wearing a simple royal blue sleeveless dress with the title sitting proudly across her lap, accessorized by tiny Pip snuggled at her side with Lady and Potato lying at her feet, she smiled as she ran a hand across the engraved plate bearing her name.
“Still hard to believe that I’m barely a year into my wrestling career, and I can already call myself a champion,” she said, her voice soft and almost emotional as she continued to stare down at the title. “Even my brothers can’t claim that. It took Lach a year and a half before he won his first title. For Mal, it was two. Now, before anyone gets any ideas...they’re both happy and proud for me. They both know how hard I’ve been working to get to this level. And now, I’m going to work twice as hard to stay here.”
She looked up from the title into the camera, her big brown eyes staring down the lens with a fiery determination that had become fairly commonplace in the last little while. “And that starts on Friday night, when I get into the ring with Richard Rider. I know the match is a non-title match, but I’m going to fight like my title is on the line. Because I want to show everyone that I deserve this.” She tapped the title with a finger. “That I’m not just the sweet little Irish girl that everyone overlooks. I’m not just Lachlan Kane and Malachi’s little sister. Miles Kasey and I went to war for this, and I was the one that came out with my hand held high. I proved that night that I had what it takes to make it in this business, and I’m going to keep proving it every time I step into that ring.”
She shifted the title so that it was now sitting proudly on her shoulder, as she settled back in the chair. “I know that most people out there probably consider Richard Rider to be somewhat of a joke. I’ve had so many people tell me that he should be a cakewalk for me.” She shook her head slightly. “But I’m not about to fall into the trap of underestimating my opponents. So many people did that to me, and look at where I am now. So for me to turn around and do the same would be hypocritical.” She gave a little smirk. “Then again, when exactly was the last time that Richard actually won a match? I know my brother’s already picked up a win over him, along with...well, just about everyone else on the roster, including the new girl Morgan Baker.” Alanah shook her head a bit. “I gotta say, as much as I don’t want to underestimate him...it’s a little hard not to, given his track record. Not to mention, he seems to fall into the habit of underestimating his opponents himself.” She gave a little nonchalant shrug of her shoulders. “Well, I guess we’ll just have to see if he decides to wise up and take things a little more seriously going forward. Because you have to believe that if he manages to pull off the ultimate miracle and defeat me on Friday, that could put him square at the top of the list of challengers for my title.” She smirked again, a little more deviously than before. “That is, if he manages to defeat me. I’ve already said that I’m treating this match like the title’s on the line, and considering how hard I fought just to win it? Imagine how much harder I’m going to fight to keep it.”
Bringing her hand up to her face, she pressed her lips to her fingertips and blew a kiss to the camera as it faded to black.
