“A Grandma’s Visit”
(Gracie returns home after doing a gym session and getting ready for a match with Jenn coming up soon, she had just arrived back home a day ago from doing promotional stuff and doing a match in Dallas. She enters the house to see an old lady sitting on the couch, at first Gracie is baffled by the person sitting there until she gets closer. It’s her grandma! They haven’t seen much of each other in the past 10 years, mostly because Grandma lives somewhere in the desert in Arizona.
Gracie: Grandma?
Grandma: Ohhhh look how big my baby has grown in the last 10 years! Your dad has sent me pictures but you’re even prettier in person! I wanted to see my great-grandchild, I figured it’s been too long.
Gracie: It has! I thought my dad said you couldn’t drive anymore.
Grandma: Oh don’t be silly! He’s protective of me, always has been ever since I knew the boy. After your mom died, he was checked in on me. I was like boy if you don’t leave me alone….
(Grandma chuckles a bit before patting the seat next to her, and Gracie nods before sitting next to her.)
Grandma: I was determined to see my granddaughter. I wasn’t going to let that retirement home or anybody else stop me, so I drove all night to get here, and hoping to see you. I know you’re busy like your dad is. I watch you do your wrestling thing on the TV and I’m so proud of you. As a little girl, you always said you would follow in your father's footsteps! Soooo, where’s the baby? In a text message, which your dad knows I can’t do, he sent me a picture of Manuela...
(Gracie stood up for a moment to get her daughter, she brings her back and Grandma is oozing with excitement to finally meet her great-granddaughter. Manny on the other is looking at the old lady wondering who she is, and why she’s hugging her she is NOT a familiar face. Just then Eddie Sr walks into the house and saw the old lady)
Eddie Sr: Oh god, who let the old bat out of her cage
Grandma: Edwin! That’s no way to talk to your mother-in-law!
( Eddie doesn’t mean any of that with bad intent, he’s always had a playful manner with her, and she does the same thing back to him, it’s how their relationship is. They always joke around each other, and she’s the ONLY person to call him Edwin. Grandma turns around to face him for the first time in years as well, her eyes shifting down to his stomach.)
Grandma: Have you been eating, you look so thin! And when did you get grey hair!?
Eddie Sr: After my dad passed away, it started to show more and I figured grey hair is a sign of wisdom, but it really started after your daughter passed away which put a lot of stress on the family and on me.
Grandma: Yeah, it did. But I still talk about her with my friends and you too! I have these what if stuff that come up but I know they’ll never come true. Then they ask if I have grandkids, and I proudly talk about Gracie. Oh listen to me babble. Are you guys heading for a show?
Eddie Sr: Yeah, out in Boston.
Grandma: Wait, I thought you retired?
Eddie Sr: I did, but I’m part of management now. Imagine that, a person who hated management during their career is now PART of it…
Grandma: You’ve always walked to the beat of your own drum, like Gracie.
Gracie: for me, I have a match with Jenn….It’s a long story to get into right now because we gotta get going soon. But if you’re still here when we get back, I’ll be glad to tell you the story.
Grandma: I would love to hear it! I mean it’s payback for all the times I told you stories about your mom because you always asked how she was when she was growing up, as well as your dad.
Gracie: Yeah, both were a handful.
Grandma: Handful is an understatement! Your mom and dad would get into so much trouble, people thought he was my kid. That one time he sat on Melvin, the class bird….oh he was in so much trouble with Jorge.
Eddie Sr: yeah well that damn thing deserved it.
Grandma: Anyway! I should let you two get going, i’ll be here for a few days maybe more…
Eddie Sr: Well, I’ll let britt know so she can show you around!
Grandma: Great idea! I’ve always liked your sister.
(Eddie talks some more with his mother in law from his first marriage with Mia, to catch up some more and just relax for once. He’s always seen her as a second mom even after the death of Mia, that whole side of the family is considers his. However, Grandma wasn’t always this nice towards Eddie Sr, but over the years and how good of a father he was with Gracie turned those feelings around. Gracie was super happy to see her, because she hasn’t seen her in a while, and getting to introduce her daughter to the elderly woman felt good. Her and Granny have always gotten along. Gracie steps away to get her bags and stuff so she’s ready to head to Boston)
“Let's talk about Respect”
(Fenway Park, is a beautiful place filled with legendary moments over the 110 years of its existence. From a fire that almost burnt down the stadium to all-star games to the world series to football games, now it’s gonna be the home of Destiny. We see Gracie and Brooklyn sitting high above the field on the wall which they call the “Green Monster”. The Green Monster sits at 37 feet tall, and 315 feet away from home plate and it’s also a tight squeeze as well.) \
Brooklyn: I’ve always seen this stadium on TV and this is my first time here and it’s very beautiful.
Gracie: I mean it’s not Dodger Stadium, but the beauty is still there. I’ve been here before though, 5 years ago. I wanna sign the Pesky’s pole down along the right field line, that’s something I never did when I was here. But I’m not here to talk about baseball, even though if you ask anybody…I love the sport. I grew up with it with my dad and so on and so forth. I can tell that story another day, we’re here because of one reason… Destiny.
(Gracie thinks back to last year at this time, it was emotional, to say the least for her.)
Gracie: Last year at this time, I faced my dad and we know how that story ended. But what you didn’t know is that match took a lot out of me emotionally. Why? Because I’m gonna be the person who ended my father’s career, and someone somewhere will try to use that against me and make me feel sorry for myself, which now when I think about it… I’m at ease with it. My dad is enjoying his retirement, he’s having fun with his grandkids, and he owns a golf course, and let’s not forget he’s in management here too in a non-wrestling role, so he can pass his knowledge along. If he’s happy, I’m happy.
(Gracie shrugs her shoulders)
Gracie: That’s when I thought fighting with my family was over but I guess I was wrong, little did I know that Jenn would be knocking me out with a box to the back of the head…. It’s fine… it’s fineeeeee. Here’s the thing, this whole episode isn’t spontaneous, it’s been brewing with her for months and it happened to spill over at the best time of the year. Look, I know what she wants, and I know why she’s doing this…for respect, she feels like she’s been disrespected by everyone, including me, which is furthest from the truth….what I’m about to say ties in with this thing about respect….
(Gracie took in a deep breath.)
Gracie: People have this misconception that because I walk to the beat of my own drum and do things on my own… that somehow I don’t like people or don’t respect people. While both things may be true, I have my own way of showing that. See, I’m not this touchy-feely emotional type of person. If I like you, I like you, if I don’t, I don’t. There’s no questions asked, there’s no hurt feelings. I just leave it there and tolerate you the best I can. I have a lot of respect for the wrestlers who came before me from the original PWS. Chaz, Daz, Laura, Nic, Lexi, JENN,, my own family, Chris Wylde to name a few. If you really get to know me, you would know the respect I have for them, but 95 percent of this roster doesn’t know me, doesn’t know how i tick, doesn’t know how i feel about things…and that’s ok.
(Gracie shrugs her shoulders slightly)
Gracie: I’m not here to please anybody and I’m not here to make friends either. I have my friends, I have people who care about me, and I have my support system, that’s all I need. So anyway let's go back to December when all this started. they needed someone to team with those legends who had ties with them, obviously, my dad couldn’t do it and I forgot what Jenn was doing, so I stepped up. Sure, I looked like stuck out like a sore thumb but that’s the level of respect I had for them, I wasn’t going to allow them to go to battle alone. I took the majority of the beatings that other team gave me why? Respect.
(Gracie shrugs her shoulders looking towards the Boston skyline from the green monster.)
Gracie: Jenn is no different from those people I tagged with in that cage. She IS a hall of famer, she is a legend and she deserves all the respect in the world for all of the bullshit she’s been through and had to put up with over the years. I didn’t take anything from her, it just happened, it fell in my lap. If I said no, she would have been mad at me, so in a way, it would have a been lose-lose situation.
Brooklyn: Sounds like it!
Gracie: This match is going to be a tough one, yeah I’ve faced Jenn a couple of times before but never in PWS. We’ve fought around the world as tag partners and as singles wrestlers. But this match feels different, it feels special. Special because it’s happening on our home base. A company that believed in us before shutting down the first time around. A submissions match is something I didn’t expect, it threw me for a loop but It’s going to be a challenge that I’m gonna have to figure out.
(Gracie let out a soft chuckle)
Gracie: Like Jenn, I’ve never been in a submissions only match, doing a submissions match is something I don’t like because it doesn’t fit my character, it doesn’t fit me, I love to smash my opponents and force them to look up the lights the hard way. However, like i said it’s a challenge that I have to figure out how to do since I don’t have a submission hold in my arsenal. But I think i have something up my sleeve that will shock even the most loyal fan…I’m not going to tell you what it is because that’ll ruin the surprise!
(Gracie looks at Brooklyn for a second.)
Gracie: Cmon, let’s go find something to eat and then i can sign the right field foul pole like everyone else has done.
(The scene comes to an end with them heading back towards field level which is a maze to get back too how to they remodeled the stadium to make that wall the way it is, it never used to have seats on it, it was netting but in recent years they changed it.
