When Angels Fall pt. 2
(After Riot had gone off the air, Audrey and Daniel Russow had their baby girl, Aurora, and were with Dan’s father, Barry, as they made their way out of the arena. Audrey has Aurora, as Dan is carrying their bags, and Barry has the baby bag.)
Audrey Russow: Man, it felt good to get the win tonight.
Daniel Russow: I knew ya would.
Barry: It was a great match, and congratulations on the win.
Audrey Russow: Thanks, Barry.
Daniel Russow: Hey, thanks for helping out so much with Aurora this past month.
Barry: INo, thank you for allowing me to.
Daniel Russow: I actually have a favor to ask.
Barry: What’s up?
Daniel Russow: Well, we really should get Aurora home, but I was wanting to take Audrey out to celebrate her win.
Barry: Say no more, I’d love to stay with Aurora.
Audrey Russow: You don’t have to. I know it’s late.
Barry: I don’t mind at all. I’ll meet you two at the house.
Audrey Russow: Thank you so much.
Daniel Russow: Thanks, Barry. See ya there.
(They separate, as Barry gets into his car. Aurora gets Aurora into her car seat in the back seat of their car, as Dan gets their bags in the back. They get into the car, and follow Barry out of the parking area. Inside Dan and Audrey’s car, Aurora is starting to get really fussy, and starting to cry. Audrey is trying to calm her down, but nothing seems to be working.)
Audrey Russow: Come on, baby girl. Soon you’ll be home with Papa Barry.
Daniel Russow: I don’t get it, she was fine not even five minutes ago.
Audrey Russow: I know what always cheers her up.
Daniel Russow: What?
(Audrey smirks, as she she shuffles through her things, before pulling up a song on her phone, as an all too familiar tune starts to play, and Dan shakes his head.)
Daniel Russow: Really?
Audrey Russow: You know she loves your singing.
(Daniel lets out a sigh, but is left with no choice.)
Daniel Russow: Hakuna Matata….what a wonderful phrase….
Audrey Russow: Hakuna Matata….ain’t no passinnnnn craaaaaaaze….
Both: It means no worries, for the rest of your days…..It’s our problem-free….philosophy...Hakuna Matata…
(The singing immediately cheers Aurora up, as she starts laughing along with Dan and Audrey. However, in a moment...the laughter...turns to screams….the happiness...turns to fear, and dred. In a moment, the world seems to stand still, the moment going in slow motion…
….as a car t-bones Barry’s car on the driver’s side right in front of Dan and Audrey. The sound of the collision, the glass shattering, the metal crunching, the tires screeching would be enough to send chills down anyone’s back. Daniel stops his car, throws it in park, and struggles a second to get his seat belt off, before finally getting it off, and gets out of the car to run to his father, as Audrey checks on Aurora, who is crying once more. Dan makes it to his father’s car to see his father in the driver’s seat, bleeding from the head.)
Daniel Russow: Are you okay?
Barry: Daniel?
Daniel Russow: I’m here…
(Daniel scurries to get to his father, working through some of the wreckage. He makes his way to him, and takes his hand, as Barry lightly looks at him. Daniel looks at his father with tears streaming down his face.)
Daniel Russow: I’m so sorry…
Barry: Son...you’re going to have to be strong.
Daniel Russow: No no, don’t talk like that...we’re getting an ambulance...we’ll get you looked at.
Barry: Daniel…
Daniel Russow: We’ll get to you to a hospital and they’ll take care of you, and you’ll be fine.
Barry: Daniel….
(Daniel looks at his father, and the look his father gives him completely and totally breaks his heart.)
Barry: I’m so proud of you son….
Daniel Russow: I’m...I’m proud of you too, Dad….
(It was the first time Daniel had called him Dad. A smile grew on Barry’s face.)
Barry: I get to reunite with your mom...we love you so much….
Daniel Russow: Please don’t leave...I need you…
Barry: You never needed me Dan..you did fine without me...you’ll have to again.
Daniel Russow: I…
Barry: You can do it...be strong...my brave son….
(With that, Daniel watches as the life leaves his father’s eyes, as he takes his final breath. Dan stays there, holding his father’s hand for a few moments, before finally letting it go. He slowly makes his way to his feet, and in a moment, he was numb. He felt nothing, no emotion, just a cold stare...if only that moment could last. Unfortunately, it faded away instantaneously once he made his way back to Audrey, who was standing outside their car with the door open to Aurora. As Daniel walked towards her, tears started filling up again in his eyes, and she knew. She wrapped her arms around him, and in an instant, the numbness was replaced with a deep, dark, soul-crushing pain, as he breaks down again in her arms. They stand in silence for a moment, before Aurora pipes up….)
Aurora: Dadda...Mama…
Audrey Russow: We’re here baby...give mommy a second.
(Daniel wipes his tears on his sleeve, and looks into the car at his baby girl.)
Audrey Russow: You wanna sit in the car and wait for the police to get here?
(Daniel nods his head, as he gets into the seat next to Aurora, and pulls Audrey with him to sit in his lap. Without saying a word, he sits there in tears with his girls, as Audrey holds him in her arms as they wait for the police and emt’s to arrive at the scene.)
