Name: "The Mad God" Dionysus
Hometown: Toronto, Ontario (Billed as from "The Asylum")
Age: 24
Height: 7'1"
Weight: 316 lbs.
Pic Base: Ministry of Darkness Undertaker
----------------------------
Theme song: "Drunken Whaler" from Dishonored (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urV8MIcLDFk)
Entrance: The lights go out. "Drunken Whaler" begins, displaying the text in white lettering on a black background, each word giving way for the next. Once the first "Way Hey and Up She Rises" begins, a single spotlight turns on, focusing on the Mad God sitting on the stage, sometimes rocking back and forth. After this, once the first heavy guitar note comes in and the drums start, Dionysus stands up, his imposing figure backed by the heavier part of the song. He looks side to side at the audience in time with the long guitar notes, then to the ring with the last one, until the next lyrics start. The next few lines of the song accompany him as he walks slowly down the ramp, looking deranged as ever, looking occasionally towards the audience, and if his opponent's in the ring, sometimes staring them directly in the eyes. At the second "Way Hey and Up She Rises" bit, on the third utterance of same (or sometimes at 'Early in the Morning'), Dio pulls himself onto the ring apron. As the distorted guitar plays, his head tilts like Kane and he stops on the apron. If Sanders is accompanying him, then during "Shoot Him Through the Heart With a Loaded Pistol", Sanders will make a gun-like motion with his hand and "shoot" at the opponent (or at an audience member if the opponent's not yet in the ring). At the first "Slice His Throat With a Rusty Cleaver", Dionysus makes an aggressive throat cutting motion, Undertaker style (Tyson Sykes will make it instead, if he's there). Somewhere between the second and third "Slice his throat" line, the Mad God finally steps into the ring, either coming face to face with his opponent, almost always staring down at them (if they're in the ring at the time), or stopping in the middle of the ring, looking around at the crowd (if they're not). The song plays until the end, though occasionally the humming is cut off slightly, especially if Dio decides to attack his opponent prematurely (which he has a good chance of doing).
Affiliation: Almost as Heel as Sanders himself (and that's an accomplishment)
Short Bio: Dionysus grew up in a port city on the East coast of Canada. He never knew much of his real family, since as an adolescent, the Mad God was sold by his drunkard parents to a local circus. They touted him as "Dionysus" given his massive frame and huge tolerance for alcohol. The ringleader was sadistic and cruel, treating all of the "freaks" horribly. If any of them performed badly, or disobeyed his strict orders, he would beat them mercilessly. Sometimes as punishment for not doing well enough, he would intentionally give them an impossible task, then watch them try in vain to complete it, before delivering their beating. Dionysus himself was chained inside his cage; he was never allowed to leave.
As they operated in and around port towns, they would often employ sailors to handle the rigging, given their experience with ropes. Dionysus would, even from his confinement, often hear said sailors singing sea shanties, his favourite always being “What will we do with a drunken sailor”, though sometimes ‘whaler’ was subbed in as the lyric, depending on the group, and how drunk everyone happened to be at the time. Dionysus would often long for the sea, a life of freedom on the waves, so in periods of great stress he would close his eyes and hum "Drunken Sailor" to himself while rocking back and forth, imagining himself on the deck of a ship far from his horrible prison. When the Mad God fell for a young woman who happened to also be a part of the show, Dionysus used that love, as well as the familiar tunes, to keep himself sane through the ringleader’s sadistic treatment.
One night, as the Mad God stayed awake, being unable to sleep, the ringleader unlocked the cage of Dionysus’ girlfriend. Dio bolted upright, immediately looking to see what was happening. The ringleader was heard talking to her about how she fell for a “disgusting freak” like Dionysus rather than himself, and she should break things off “for her own good”. As she refused, the ringleader attacked. The moment he laid a hand on her, Dionysus broke his chains and busted the door to his cage, jumping on the circus leader, strangling and pummelling him to death.
When authorities stumbled upon the circus, they found the ringleader in a pool of his own blood, and Dionysus holding his love, rocking back and forth, and gently humming “Drunken Sailor”.
Dionysus was granted an insanity plea for the murder he committed, and he was sent to a local sanitarium. He still wasn’t treated properly, but it was at least better than the circus.
It's unknown how or when Jonathan Sanders came across Dionysus, but what IS known is that he freed the Mad God from his imprisonment, so Dionysus sees him as his saviour and his friend.
