SCENE ONE: SHOCK AND AWE REUNION
Where: Spare Bedroom at Candy and Marcus’s house
When: Sunday, 10/11, late morning. A few hours before the ceremony
Who: James, David, Eddie, Marcus, Dynamite
(We catch up with our groom in a spare bedroom at Marcus and Candy’s house. James was wearing his tux pants and shirt, had his vest on, but not his jacket yet. David was already in full attire, helping the other guys finish getting ready.)
James: David, You really didn’t have to do all of this… you know that, right?
David: If it makes you feel any better, most of this was ready to go years ago...I just needed a venue and a date.
James: Yeah… she kept wanting to wait for things to be perfect, and life to be calm. This is more than we could ever expect. You know she is not really into all this girly stuff.
Dynamite: No matter how much they may say they aren’t, weddings are the exception for all women.
Marcus: He’s right. And then I think her lack of interest in girly things was transferred to Candy… who is obsessed with glitter and pink more than any woman should be.
(They all share a laugh)
SCENE TWO: wedding prep like hair and makeup with the girls
Where: Another Spare Bedroom at Candy and Marcus’s house
When: Sunday, late morning. A few hours before the ceremony (same time as above)
Who: Alexis, Candy, Maria, Jenn, Gracie, and Brittney
(We join our Bride as she sits in a chair in the middle of the spare room. She was wearing a button up shirt and sweatpants as she has one person fussing with her hair, and another working on her makeup. It was evident that she was excited, but also uncomfortable as she is not the girly girl type. On the wall hung 3 dress bags with the names “LEXI” “JENN” and “GRACIE” on them. Jenn and Gracie sat in chairs on each side of her, and also had someone doing their hair and makeup. Britt, Maria, and Candy were sitting on the bed working on their own makeup.)
Alexis: God I am glad you ladies are here right now. I would be freaking out.
Maria: Probably make a run for the door, right?
Alexis: No. I’m not scared or nervous. You guys know I would have been just as happy going into city hall and having a tiny little thing with a witness and that’s it.
Maria: Yeah, that’s the problem.
Alexis: I just didn’t want anyone to make a huge fuss like this.
Maria: You absolutely know that David has been planning parts of this for at least 2 years… right? He got ordained the day after you guys got engaged.
Alexis: I know. I can’t believe we waited so long.
Jenn: We were all starting to think you would be engaged for the rest of your lives.
Britt: Yeah, I thought for sure it was a prank when I got the call.
(Alexis turned round and looked at Britt with a slight smirk. The girl doing her makeup turned her face back around.)
Britt: What? It’s true!
Gracie: I’m just glad it’s finally happening.
Alexis: I am really glad that we are doing this thing right. With all my girls at my side. Speaking of which… has anyone heard from Heather?
Maria: She messaged me about 5 minutes ago saying her driver got a flat tire and she is waiting for a new car to come get her. She should be here within the hour.
Alexis: Good. I want her to be here too. Everything is all set?
Maria: For the one hundredth time… yes. Flowers arrived perfectly, catering is setting up for the catered lunch after the ceremony. David has everything set for the big bonfire “reception”.
Jenn: The what?
Maria: Well, he wanted to do a nice dinner while everyone was still dressed up. Because, frankly, we all know that we got Red here in that dress for… 2 hours max… before she sneaks off to put on jeans and a shirt…
(Alexis chuckled and nodded in complete agreement.)
Maria: So he is doing a more informal reception after the sun goes down that is complete with a bonfire, bbq of all sorts, and most importantly… beer.
Gracie: That is much more Alexis than a fancy meal with a salad, and champagne and things.
Maria: Exactly. He even spent like 5 hours yesterday putting together a playlist of music for it that includes all sorts of music that’s perfect “bonfire music” as he put it.
Britt: BBQ and Beer. That’s our Lexi!
Alexis: No shame in that.
(Britt gets up and walks over next to Alexis.)
Britt: I better go check on the girls. Make sure they aren’t trying to sneak into the cake or just causing other havoc. You know how they are. Sure, we got Jayne watching them but… they outnumber him and that is just not a winning battle.
Alexis: OHHHHH YEAH.
Britt: Also should check on my dad…
Jenn: Oh god… he is probably out there giving them ideas…
(Britt nodded)
Britt: Yeah… scary thought... I’ll see you out there, Mrs Younger…
Alexis: Not yet, but almost.
(Britt exits the room as the ladies continue getting ready.)
SCENE THREE: I NOW (FINALLY) PRONOUNCE YOU MAN AND WIFE
Where: Backyard of Candy and Marcus’s house
When: Sunday, 2PM
Who: Alexis Makarios, James Younger, David Shane, Maria Angel-Shane (and their children Julia and Aaron), Dynamite, Jayne, Brittney Lopez (and her twins Katie and Ashley), Jennifer Carpenter-Lopez, Gracie Lopez, Kayla Stone, Madison Carpenter, Jorge Lopez, Marcus Cage, Candy, Heather Haze, and Alfonso Banks. And of course… Mr Nanners. Because why WOULDN’T a chimp be at a wedding?
(We catch up to the start of the ceremony. In the backyard, towards the fence, stands a beautiful archway, adorned with hundreds of Calla Lillies, Alexis’s favorite flower. From the archway, down towards the house, is a beautiful white carpet walkway. On both sides of the walkway sit 9 chairs in 3 rows of 3 each side. Each chair is decorated with flowers and beads. Everything is done up absolutely beautifully. Standing up at the archway was James Younger, with a huge smile across his face. Maria came out of the house and started walking around.)
Maria: PLACES PEOPLE! WE ARE ABOUT TO BEGIN!
(People begin to take their seats. On the left side in the front sit Brittany and her twins. Behind her are Jorge, Madison, and Kayla. And behind them sit Maria and her children, Julia and Aaron. On the right side in the front sits Candy with 2 empty seats next to her. Behind them sit Dynamite, and his son Jayne. And behind them sit Heather Haze and Alfonso. Everyone was dressed up and looking fancy. Walking up the aisle is groomsman Marcus Cage, walking bridesmaid Gracie Lopez. They take their positions and are then followed by Best Man Eddie Lopez, walking Maid of Honor Jennifer Carpenter-Lopez to the archway where they take their positions. Once they are up there, David steps out of the house)
David: The bride will be out in exactly 2 minutes.
(He goes back inside, where he walks up to Alexis who was wearing her white dress and had her veil behind her head.)
David: You ready?
Alexis: Yes. I just wish my dad could be here to walk me down the aisle.
David: About that…
(He pulled out his phone and opened a video chat.)
David: You guys ready?
Mom: More than you know.
Dad: Very ready.
(He turned the camera towards Alexis, and she got a tear in her eye, seeing her parents on the screen. She then looked confused, as she recognized the background.)
Alexis: Mom… dad… where are you?
Dad: Closer than you think. Turn around.
(She turned around and was face to face with her parents!!! She let out an uncharacteristic squeal as she hugged them.)
Alexis: HOW???
David: I pulled some strings. If anyone asks, they are here for business talks and will quarantine for 14 days before returning. Now… let’s get you married, Red.
(Alexis hugged David.)
Alexis: Thank you. For everything.
David: You are very welcome. Now, let’s not keep your man waiting.
(He walked out of the room, and walked himself up the aisle to the archway. He nodded and down the aisle walked David’s son, Aaron, carrying a pillow with the rings on it. When he gets up front, David’s daughter, Julia, walks down the aisle dropping hands full of flower petals onto the walkway. When they got to the front, David nods and the bridal march begins to play. Everyone turns to the back to see Alexis being walked down the aisle by her mom and dad. James’s face lights up as he can’t believe it’s finally time. They walk her down the aisle and both kiss her on the cheek before “giving her away”. They take their seats in the front as Alexis and James, hand in hand, turn towards David.)
David: Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to FINALLY join Alexis Makarios and James Younger in marriage. It’s been a long road to get to this point, so I won’t take up too much time before we get to the good stuff. We’ve all known these 2 for along time. Some of us longer than others. But one thing we have all always known is that they belong together. They bring out the best in each other, and damnit they are one hell of a great couple.
(Some scattered laughter was heard.)
David: So let’s start off with their vows. They have decided to write their own. James, you may begin.
(James and Alexis turn towards each other)
James: Lexi, we have had a long and winding road to get here. But never was there a doubt in my mind that we WOULD get here. I have loved you since we were teenagers, and I never stopped when my parents moved me away from you. And now, no one can take me away from you. Ever. I can’t wait to start the next chapter of our lives together… in our new home… as husband and wife.
Alexis: Jimmy, you have always been there for me and supported me no matter what. From the days when we were just dumb kids, up to this very day, and waiting for patiently for this day to come. I can’t believe it took so long for this to happen. But I am glad it is happening, with all our loved ones around us. We are really lucky, not many people have the kind of love we do. You are my best friend, and my confidant. And you are stuck with me and all my craziness forever and ever.
James: I wouldn’t have it any other way.
(An audible “awwwwe” was heard as things continue.)
David: That was beautiful. Now, let’s proceed with the exchanging of the rings. James, please place the ring on Alexis’s finger and repeat after me. “I give you this ring, as a symbol of my love. I ask you to wear it as a sign to the world that you are my wife. With this ring, I thee wed.”
(James places the ring on Alexis’s finger, and repeats.)
James: I give you this ring, as a symbol of my love. I ask you to wear it as a sign to the world that you are my wife. With this ring, I thee wed.
David: Alexis, please place the ring on James’s finger and repeat after me. “I give you this ring, as a symbol of my love. I ask you to wear it as a sign to the world that you are my husband. With this ring, I thee wed.”
(Alexis places the ring on James’s finger, and repeats.)
Alexis: I give you this ring, as a symbol of my love. I ask you to wear it as a sign to the world that you are my husband. With this ring, I thee wed.
David: Do you, James, take Alexis to be your lawfully wedded wife? From this day forward, to have and to hold, for better, for worse, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?
James: I do.
David: Do you, Alexis, take James to be your lawfully wedded husband? From this day forward, to have and to hold, for better, for worse, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?
Alexis: I do.
David: And with that, by authority vested in me by the State of Nevada, I now pronounce you husband and wife. What are you waiting… KISS HER!
(James chuckled a little as he lifted Alexis’s veil and they share their first kiss as a married couple. Everyone in attendance is on their feet, clapping, and hooting and hollering. The couple turn towards their guests and smile.)
David Shane: I present to you, for the very first time, MR AND MRS JAMES YOUNGER!!!
(And on that note, Alexis turns around to throw her bouquet. All the ladies gather round. She tosses it and in a flurry of people, one person emerged successful in catching it… Gracie Lopez! The look on Eddie’s face was priceless.)
David: And now that all the official stuff is done… LETS GET SOME FOOD AND HAVE SOME FUN!!!
